Movie Monday: Spectre

I grew up with James Bond movies, my father loves these movies so I couldn't escape these movies even if I wanted to. But the thing is that I also like James Bond movies, eventhough they have changed a lot over the years. Not just the actors that play as James Bond but also the movies themselves. In the old movies it was more about spy stuff, but in the latest Bond movies it's more about action and explosions. That's also nice but not really something that screams Bond movie to me.

Bond movies are getting more personal?

There were some Bond movies that tried to give Bond a more human look, he would fall in love and do anything for the woman he loves but the next movie would have another Bond girl so you never really believed that what they had in the movie was more than just a quick hook up. Ok in the movie On Her Majesty's Secret Service Bond got married but that movie is pretty much the odd one out in the series. But then the Daniel Craig movies started as James Bond and they showed a Bond that wasn't that experienced and in Casino Royale he falls in love and even wants to leave MI6, which is something I never saw before in a Bond movie. In other Bond movies with Craig you also learn more about his past, something that also stays a mystery in most Bond movies. I actually like this and it gives you a better picture of who Bond really is and how he became this person. In Spectre this continues and you learn who is behind the death of his parents and ruined his life. It's interesting that this is part of the story, because the death of his parents is just barely mentioned in other Bond movies but here they actually give you some information and a villain who was behind it.

Spectre is more spy stuff and less action?

Nope, not really. Sure there are some spy moments but it's still action that is the dominating factor in this movie, so for fans of the classic Bond movies that's probably not so good news but that doesn't make Spectre a bad movie. It actually ties things up for you from previous Bond movies with Daniel Craig. So if you like the previous Bond movies with Craig then you're in luck, but I must admit that I like Casino Royale and Skyfall more than Spectre. Which doesn't mean that Spectre is a bad movie, just not as good as the other two Bond movies with Craig. I could tell you what the movie is about but that would ruin things for people who haven't seen it, because it doesn't give you much room to explain things without ruining it for some people. Let's just say that if you saw the previous Bond movies you want to see Spectre as well, if you haven't seen those movies you might want to see those first before you watch Spectre or probably not watch Spectre at all.
