Movie Monday: Watchmen

It's time to take another jump back in time, eventhough the movie isn't that old it takes place mostly in the 80's, and look at an alternate time where the world is a lot darker and things aren't that simple. Watchmen is a super hero movie without any real super heroes, ok Doctor Manhattan has super powers, he's the only one who has super powers in this universe, but is he really a hero? A lot of people thought that nobody could make a movie about the graphic novel but Zack Snyder proved everyone wrong!

No more super heroes?

 Things are weird in the Watchmen universe, people aren't allowed to dress up and fight crime and the USA is very close to a nuclear war with the Sovjiet Union. Pretty scary when you think of it but then something completely different happens, one of the Watchmen is murdered and some members are trying to solve the crime while dealing with their own personal problems. What could've been a simple murder investigation turns into something so much more and much bigger than anyone could've expected!

No mercy?

 What I like about Watchmen is how brutal it can be. Rorschach for example kills his opponents and Doctor Manhattan completely obliterates his opponents. The Comedian is also one of those 'heroes' that doesn't mind to shoot them instead of arresting them. Things aren't really that simple in the Watchmen universe and don't expect some type of good guy in the story that makes everything right. The fact is that in Watchmen there aren't really any good guys, it's all morally grey and everyone is incredibly human. Maybe Doctor Manhattan is the weird one, no not just because he's blue, where he seems to feel less human with each year. I like the connection between the characters and how real the characters are. They are fictional but they've been the most real super heroes I've seen in a movie!

Why should you see this movie?

 Because it's really good? Seriously! Watchmen is a good movie and yes some fans of the graphic novel might say something else but that's the thing with some people. They like the book more than the movie, as if that's something new. Don't think that the movie is bad, maybe a bit long but considering all the things that need to fit in the movie it does make sense that it's a long movie. If you watch it for the first time then it never really gets boring, maybe for a second or third time there are some slow moments though. If you like super hero movies and want to see things a bit different than the average super hero movie then Watchmen is the movie for you!

Button bashing

It seems that more and more games want you to smash on the buttons of the controller, which seems like fun but knowing that this weak piece of plastic can´t handle much it´s not the smartest way to handle your controller. In the good old arcade days I could smash on buttons, ok nothing too crazy but at least those machines had a lot more resilience than these weak controllers we have now. You have to pay a small fortune for one of them and they fall apart with the slightest bit of force you use. After smashing a couple of controllers out of frustration I learned to be careful with them, but when games force you to be an agressive button basher it doesn´t really help. Button bashing is nothing new but I do seem to see it in more and more games, even games that could easily do without this abusive way of treating your controller. Movie Monday: Mr & Mrs Smith

There are movie that might not look good at first, when you hear about it, but once you see the movie then you know that it's a fantastic movie. What really made Mr & Mrs Smith so good was the acting of the two main stars in the movie, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. They had so much fun making this movie that it's an absolute joy to watch the movie. Which is good news for people that are looking for a fun movie to watch! Married to a spy? The story of Mr & Mrs Smith is pretty simple, a man is a spy and marries to a woman not knowing that she's a spy too. Apparently both of them are unaware of eachothers activities until their paths cross in their spy life, which leads to a lot of fighting and explosions. It's really not the action that makes this movie so much fun to watch but it's the humour. Sinful Sunday: Why are you so serious?

When I play a game I don't want to be serious, I just want to have fun and relax. Honestly real life is serious enough and I don't need that in games. Who cares who wins or who loses, just have fun and that already makes it great! Unfortunately there are gamers that take certain games way too serious, so serious that they literally forget to have fun which is quite frustrating to deal with. These kind of players are so serious that they probably left the fun behind when they started the game. Sigh... Serious gamers are lame gamers? There is nothing wrong about being serious, but I think there is a time and a place for everything.
