Movie Monday: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead men tell no tales

Are you a fan of these pirate movies? Well then you're in luck because part five has a lot of the things you might have liked from the previous movies, but at the same time it also has a lot of issues the other movies had as well. To me the best Pirates movie is the first one, Curse of the Black Pearl, but that doesn't make this movie terrible. Just not as good as it could've and should've been.

What's going on in part five?

You know the usual, a curse and only one man to stop it...yes Captain Jack Sparrow! But once more it's not just Jack but he gets some helpers along the way. Henry, the son of Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, Turner and Carina Smyth. Once again the places of Will and Elizabeth seem to have been taken over by a new couple and you can pretty much predict how that ends. At the same time Jack gets himself into more and more trouble, the villains are dumb and always there to just see Jack escape, there are a lot of familiar faces in this movie and the big bad villain in the ghost of an old enemy of Jack. Seems like a good movie? Unfortunately not as good as you might like...

Sparrow?

When you have an amazing actor like Javier Bardem at your disposal and half of the movie he keeps saying Sparrow then you know that there is something wrong with a movie. He started pretty good, a creepy introduction and you even find out why he turned into a vengeful ghost, but towards the end of the movie you just can't help but laugh at him. The British navy plays a role, a small one, but it's so insignificant that it's hardly worth mentioning. You're mostly following Jack and crew through the movie, which is fine because Jack Sparrow is probably the main reason why people even want to see this movie. But as I mentioned before there are several familiar faces turning up in this movie, so maybe fans of the first three movies want to stick around for that and see a glimpse of Will and Elizabeth.

Is this movie worth seeing?

It depends, do you like the previous Pirates of the Caribbean movies? If so then you'll probably be ok with this movie. Even if it's just to close off the story because supposedly this is to be the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie, at least with Jack Sparrow. If you're hoping for a spooky and exciting adventure then you're sadly mistaken. Sure there is a lot going on but it's not that exciting and definitely not spooky. I think the movie had a lot of potential but just caves in under all the things that go on and somehow nothing of it really keeps you excited for the movie. I think the movie is fine to watch once, but once you've seen it you can store it somewhere and never think about it again. I know that sounds harsh but I prefer to be honest with you instead of lying.
