YouTube adventures -65- Self promotion is a sin?

You've probably seen it before, you check the comment section under a video of a popular YouTuber and discover several comments of people trying to lure people to their channel. Some will even go so far as to promise you rewards if you're one of the first to check out his or her video. It makes you wonder...

Is self promotion a sin?

I can tell you that it's not against the rules but heavily frowned upon in the YouTube community. I can definitely understand that some people are eager to see their channel grow and will do almost anything to make that happen. Some would go that far to promise you presents if you're one of the first viewers or give away prizes if you watch several videos of this YouTuber. This is their business, it's easy to say that it's a scam but who knows you might actually get something. But when people promise me things online I usually already doubt that from the moment I hear or read it.

Eventhough it's not against the rules to promote your channel I find it quite distasteful to do this on the channel of someone else. It's not just rude and unwanted but also sad in my opinion. It sucks when nobody watches your videos, when nobody seems to like what you do but there are other ways of changing that and it doesn't require being a douchebag! So maybe self promotion isn't a sin but it sure isn't a positive thing in my eyes.

I've never promoted my channel, I don't see the need for that nor do I have the desire for that. Of course it's nice when people want to watch your videos and give the video a like, but to ask for these things feels awkward to me and I don't think that this is the right way of getting more views to your channel. Make interesting content and hopefully the viewers will show up sooner or later. Sometimes this can take some time and there are even times when it seems like it never happens. Maybe take a look at your content, does it need some work or maybe try to change the type of videos you're releasing. See what works for you and pick things up from there.

What's better is to try and work together with other YoutTubers, it's a great way to attract new viewers and with some luck both channels benefit from that. Now before you think that you can work together with people that have millions of subscribers you should keep in mind that they probably get a lot of offers from other small channels. So maybe start with people around your own channel size. Preferably people that play the same type of games or have similar interests as you. It also helps if you actually get along with this person, I mean you can work together with someone else but if you can't stand him or her then that's not going to be fun for you.

If you really want to promote your channel then you can always ask the owner of that channel if you can promote your channel there. I doubt many people are ok with that but you never know, maybe some people don't have a problem with that. I still think you should earn views and not ask for them, but I can understand that if you've been patient for years that you want to see some changes and as much as you want them they just don't happen. But never lose the one thing that should motivate us all. Have fun doing what you're doing, because when it's no longer fun then what's the point?
