The Evil Within 2, what a freaky surprise!
Did you play the Evil Within? Then you know what you're in for, a disturbing survival horror game that isn't kind for the player. Not only do you die pretty fast but you also don't get a lot of ammo and health to work with. So it really brings out the survival part in a survival horror game. But what does the Evil Within 2 have in store for us?
Sebastian is back?
Yep! The main protagonist from the Evil Within is back and he looks like he's been through some tough times. He is contacted by Julie Kidman, who helped you in the previous game and you could play as her in the dlc, and she tells him that his daughter, who he thought had died, is still alive and that he's the only one that can save her. But that means he has to go back into the horrible nightmare world, aka STEM. It seems Mobius, the organization that works from the shadows, had kidnapped Sebastian's daughter and faked her death so they could use her for experiments. But apparently something went wrong and now the creepy organization Kidman works for asks Sebastian for help. Of course Sebastian wants to help his daughter but that means that you, the player, will have to go back into the nightmare. Oh great...
More disturbing and more violent?
From what I saw in the trailers the sequel looks even more disturbing than the first game, which means that you might want to prepare for this game by diving back into the Evil Within so you can get used to some of the disturbing moments. I mean who can forget that creepy girl with multiple arms that was hunting you through the asylum! In the Evil Within 2 you feel that constant threat once more and from what I've seen it's no joke! You do get more freedom in the game and you can go your own way, but ammo and other resources will be limited so you might not want to go too crazy out there! The combat is still not in your favour, so thinking you can just swing in as some action hero and gun down every enemy just like that would be a big mistake! You can sneak around and silent kill enemies, which saves you ammo and a lot of trouble. If you played the first game you should be familiar with this, otherwise I would strongly advice you to practice because every shot counts in the Evil Within!
Why should you be excited about this game?
Because it looks really good? I think that the Evil Within is one of those rare survival horror games that's actually really good, not some lame attempt in creating a spooky adventure but truly a sick twisted experience in the worst place you can imagine and without any real means to defend yourself. I don't think the Evil Within 2 is for everyone, the pray and spray type of players might want to evade this game because if you waste ammo you're not going to last long in this game! It can also be quite frustrating when you keep dying to regular enemies because you fail to sneak past them or mess up your shots. But despite the increased difficulty it is a very rewarding and fun experience, especially if you enjoy survival horror games. Keep in mind that Shinji Mikami, the brilliant mind behind Resident Evil and the Evil Within as well, has a strong influence on this game so you don't have to worry that the Evil Within 2 is going to suck. I'm pretty certain that it's not and I can't wait to play it on Friday the 13th 2017!
