Vampyr, embrace your inner vampire!
It's been some time since I saw a good vampire game, the last time I enjoyed playing as a vampire was in the Dawnguard dlc in Skyrim. But let's not forget about Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines which is my favourite vampire game so far. It seems that Vampyr isn't just a quick cash grab title to lure in some vampire fans, no Vampyr looks like a very interesting game that offers you more than some simple hack and slash action.
The name is Reid, Jonathan Reid?
You play as Jonathan Reid, a doctor that has resently been turned into a vampire. The game takes place in London 1918 so expect some creepy and gothic environments instead of bright streets and cameras everywhere. What's interesting about Vampyr is that you decide what kind of person you're going to be. If you want to be the stealthy vampire that only kills the bad guys then you can be that kind of vampire, but you can also be the savage killer that just kills everyone and shows no mercy! There is even an option to be a pacifist, you don't kill anyone but you also don't gain a lot of experience this way. You see the way you earn experience is by drinking blood, so if you never drink blood you don't get a lot of experience and the game will become more difficult the further you get into the game. You can also play detective and learn about the people in London, this gives you new dialogue options and this can lead to different outcomes in certain moral choice situations and you can also get experience from this. It will mean you have to invest some time in playing detective but to me it sounds very interesting!
Free to go where you want to go?
You have the freedom to go where you want to go, but there are of course rules for vampires. For example you can't be exposed to sun light so the game will take place at night for you. This helps add a more creepy vibe to the game and it also makes sense, no sparkle bullshit here! You also have to be invited into someones house, so don't expect to just walk in. This means you will have to be convincing or use your vampire charm to get inside. You don't need that for public areas, for example the pub is a place where you can just walk in. Then there are also vampire hunters roaming the streets, so you might want to be careful where you go! These guys have some serious weapons, I mean flamethrowers kind of spell bad news for vampires, so you might want to be careful here! You do have some amazing abilities at your disposal.
More than one trick up your sleeve?
As you know you have fangs as a vampire, but you have so much more than that in this game. You can pick from different skill trees and select what suits your play style more. For example as a stealthy player you want to stick to using the stealth skills. This means you can turn into smoke and quickly leave a fight or shake off people that are chasing you. Then there is also an ability to teleport to higher locations or get across a gap. There are also some blood related abilities that can empower you or weaken enemies, I'm not exactly certain what they all do but I got the impression that you have multiple ways of dealing with enemies and this makes the game more interesting to play again even after you finished it. You also have your social skills to charm and convince people to do what you want, this is a great way to get into someones house or to get some information you really want. Once you're in someones house and nobody spots you then you can do what you want. But keep in mind that your actions will have consequences!
This game is worth checking out?
I think it is, because let's be honest there aren't a lot of good vampire games out there and looking at Vampyr I think it's safe to say that we got one more good game. I would like to see some more gameplay and get a better feel of the game but from what I've seen and heard so far I really like this game! I would like to know if you can turn other people into vampires, can you use certain people as a donor so you don't have to find a new victim every night and are there romance options in the game? Vampyr looks very impressive and gives players that love vampire games something to look forward to. The game is scheduled for release in November 2017, so with some luck we can play this game soon! I can't wait!
