Sinful Sunday: Why are you so serious?

When I play a game I don't want to be serious, I just want to have fun and relax. Honestly real life is serious enough and I don't need that in games. Who cares who wins or who loses, just have fun and that already makes it great! Unfortunately there are gamers that take certain games way too serious, so serious that they literally forget to have fun which is quite frustrating to deal with. These kind of players are so serious that they probably left the fun behind when they started the game. Sigh...

Serious gamers are lame gamers?

There is nothing wrong about being serious, but I think there is a time and a place for everything. When I play a game with my friends then I'm not being serious nor am I serious when I start up some random multiplayer match. Sure it's nice to win but it's not everything! Things become more serious when there is something at stake, for example in ranked matches or during a tournament. I understand that things are more serious there and I will do my best when I'm part of a team, but learn to chill every now and then. This super serious and stressful behaviour is often quite toxic and that makes you not a fun person to play games with. It's one of the reasons why I stopped with Overwatch ranked mode, it was fun but other people were getting more and more toxic and I also saw myself become quite toxic in the process. People hate on eachother for mistakes or not getting a heal when they needed one. Then there are people who fail and then others are blamed for that and people get mad at eachother. Not a fun experience at all, unless you like seeing people rage at eachother but when you're part of the team and you just want to have fun then you're in for a tough time. Of course people want to win but when you play a game you should always keep in mind that you could lose, there are no guarantees to win every time. So of course you can be more serious, just don't forget to have some fun as well because what's the point of playing games if you don't have any fun?

Are you never serious?

Of course I'm sometimes serious, like I mentioned before in ranked matches but also when I try to get a certain achievement or dealing with a difficult moment in the game. It can't all be fun, sometimes you need to concentrate and do you best. Certain games will test your limits and most likely will make you rage when things don't go your way. I remember the last ranked match I played in Overwatch where I got so pissed at my team, I was constantly biting my tongue to contain the anger but the other team was taking away the victory and I knew that we could win. As Reaper I constantly took care of the enemy Roadhog and yet my team never moved up and never backed me up. Meanwhile I had to deal with a Roadhog that got healed constantly by Mercy and got assists from Tracer. So at least two people on my team where doing nothing as I was dealing with three at once. I just got so mad at my team so I yelled in my mic if someone was going to help me with these people. We eventually won but that made me realize that Ranked mode was just not for me, it made me toxic and I just lost interest in the game. It was no longer fun and when it brings out the worst in me then it's better to play another game that is fun for me to play. Sometimes I still get pissed off when I can't get an achievement or when the game is screwing me over because of bugs and glitches but usually I'm pretty calm while playing games. It's the trick to play the right kind of games that are fun to play and don't even get near the frustrating games. That means more fun and less frustration!

Why are some gamers so serious?

I guess some people just really want to win. I don't really blame them but it sucks when you have to deal with someone that is so toxic because he or she wants to win that desperately. Just try to have fun and focus on the things that make you happy, if you stay in a game that makes you angry and that frustrates you then you're clearly not having fun and you should ask yourself why you're still playing that game. There are also gamers that want to do well in a game, to rise up in the ranks and become a professional gamer. That seems like a lot of fun but to be totally realistic here that's not for everyone, what's worse is that most people are often mediocre at games at best and as much as you want to believe you're amazing you're often not that amazing. I'm glad I never had those illusions, I know that I'm average at best and in some games I'm just terrible. Which is fine, you don't have to be good at a game to enjoy it but sometimes it can definitely make things more fun. Just never let certain things stand in the way of having fun, because then it really becomes the question why you're still playing games. Games should be fun to play and when you're not having fun then what's the point of playing these games? That doesn't mean that you can't be serious, just try to keep it under control and don't become a toxic douchebag when things aren't going your way. You can't win all the time!
