I hate Monday: When games give your character a stamina bar

I honestly hate the stamina bar, it somehow always screws you over and you never seem to have enough. Are you in a hurry? Sorry it's recharging! Do you need to use a power attack? Sorry it's not full enough! Trying to dodge an attack? Sorry you're out of stamina and now you stand still like a jackass and you're easily hit multiple times! Yeah the stamina bar, fuck that annoying piece of crap in every game!

Why do you have a stamina bar in certain games?

That's a good question and I always thought that it was some lame way for developers to slow the player down. If you would have infinite sprint you would be able to get from one point to the other way too fast and that would mean you're done faster with the game. You would probably also miss out on side quests or other things that happen in the game because you can rush forward constantly. I guess in those situations it makes sense, you don't want the player to rush too quickly because then you would miss out on certain things in a game. This means I have less problems with the stamina bar in Skyrim, this isn't a game I want to rush through and for every quest you get a lot of time to complete it so there is no real need to hurry. But in a game like Fortnite every mission is timed, you have to complete it within a certain amount of time or you'll fail or you need to move quickly to grab resources and build to protect an objective. In this game the stamina bar isn't your friend, especially not when you play as a constructor when things seem to go even slower. I understand that the stamina bar has a function but too many times it screws you over in games. Just look at Metal Gear Survive, when you run out of stamina you stand still and it takes several seconds to recover and you can't move during that recovery. Just imagine enemies swarming up on you, yeah that's not going to be annoying at all! That's already a big reason for me not to play that game, it's just frustrating things like that which will ruin the game for me.

Never enough stamina?

Have you had situations in a game where you're literally just sitting and waiting for the stamina to be high enough for you to do a special move? Those moments are so frustrating when you want to do your special move but you can't because the stamina bar isn't high enough. At that point you could just as well put a recharge on the power and make people wait that way instead of screwing them over with the stamina bar. Then there are also games like Fortnite where you have a recharge on special abilities and an annoying stamina bar, some games just have it all. What I also like about a game like Skyrim but also Saint's Row the Third and IV is that you can increase the stamina bar when you level up and in Skyrim there are also potions that give you stamina back instantly. This is perfect for impatient players that want to use abilities immediately and seem to run out of stamina a lot. Maybe my playstyle is just too rushed and to forceful but that's not an excuse to put lame ass stamina bars in so many games. In Monster Hunter World I've also had my issues with that stamina bar. Just try to chase a monster when you're low on stamina, yeah great fun! I get it why there is a stamina bar in certain games but I really wish they were less about screwing a player over and more about keeping the game a bit more balanced. Which means you don't run out of stamina after several swings with your weapon and you can't run endlessly around the map. Find a silver lining in between and please stop screwing me with the fucking stamina bar. I'm honestly getting an allergtic reaction to stamina bars when I encounter them in games lately, I have just too many bad experiences with them!
