Games you keep going back to

When you play a game for the first time it's often a fun and exciting time, everything is new and you can explore the game or pretty much do your own thing in that game. But once you beat the game and/or play the game for several weeks you do get tired of it eventually, I'm mostly talking about personal experience but I think I'm not the only one who feels that way, and that makes the game less interesting to play. Eventhough that game is now less interesting to play and you know pretty much all there is to that game you sometimes find yourself playing that game again, maybe not right away but after a couple of months or maybe more than a year. Does that make sense? Well it makes sense to me!

Going back to games you already played?

It might seem weird and without new dlc it might seem like a really weird thing to do, but for me it's nice to go back to games I already played. Just to get back into a game I enjoyed playing is like coming home, it's a nice and familiar feeling that can help you get through some less interesting moments. For example when there aren't a lot of games launching that you're interested in playing. Just looking at 2017 I already go back to several games that launched in that year or that had updates in that year. For example Rainbow Six Siege (with all the new operators in each season), Fortnite (with each month a new event and in battle royale almost every week something new), Injustice 2 (with the new fighters that are available each month) and the Sims 4 (each month there is a new add on that you can buy). These games are fun to play, sometimes not always that fun because of bugs and glitches, and that makes me want to go back to them every now and then. Sometimes you need to play a game you really enjoyed playing before and you just have that urge to play that game again. I think a lot of gamers just want to have fun playing a game and that doesn't require a new game every time you're looking for a fun game to play. If you hold on to the games you buy then you should have a quite the collection of fun games you can go back to and that you can play. This isn't just fun but also a nice trip down memory lane where you go back to a game that you enjoyed playing in the past. For me that's games like the legend of Zelda: the ocarina of time, Halo Reach, Resident Evil, Skyrim, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, Dragon Age: Origins and the Mass Effect trilogy. It's such a joy to go back to these games and dive into the adventure again. It does help when you don't really remember all the things you have to do, that definitely makes the game more interesting to play but even when I do remember everything I can still enjoy the game. The party banter in Dragon Age: Origins, assassinating targets for the dark brotherhood in Skyrim or playing tunes on my ocarina in the legend of Zelda: the ocarina of time.

Why do you go back to these old games?

Because they're fun to play! That should already be reason enough for me but I also enjoy getting back into a game I don't remember that well. That makes things more exciting and makes me wonder what happened next. I do know the story in certain games pretty well and it doesn't hold many surprises for me but it's always nice to go back to these kind of games from time to time. I do try to avoid playing these games for too long or too much at one time. That's a great way to make you sick and tired of a game. I haven't forgotten that about Dragon Age: Inquisition where I played the game non stop for a month and it took me almost a year before I could play it again. Games are fun and there is nothing wrong with putting time and effort into a game but you should always switch it up a bit. Too much of something isn't a good thing, not even when it comes to games. Besides it's not like there aren't any fun new games coming out this year. There are a lot of interesting games I'm looking forward to playing, but until those launch days arrive I can spend some time in some of my older games. Sometimes it's better to stick to the games you know and love than to take a risk with a new game you hardly know anything about. I had to learn that lesson, again, with Monster Hunter World. Games are fun but not every game is fun for everyone. So find the games that you enjoy and hold on to them, you never know when you want to go back to that game!
