Summer game tip: Watchdogs

Lately I've been playing Watchdogs a lot, which might surprise you because the game wasn't that popular. But you should keep in mind that it's not a bad game, sure there are some frustrating missions but they're not impossible and you could always ignore the missions and just enjoy the random things you can do in the game. Not a bad way to spend a week or two in the Summer!

You're the bad guy?

You play as Aiden Pearce, a vigilante that takes justice into his own hands. Of course the criminals aren't happy with that but the cops aren't happy about that either. They will try to kill you if they get a chance, which is weird because I would think they would try to stop me but not kill me. I guess the logic of the game is just to put more targets for you to shoot in the game. What is interesting is that you have a phone that allows you to hack a lot of things. This can help you shake off pursuers, capture bad guys, find collectibles or just spy on random people. Yes you can be a sad sack of shit pervert in this game! You can play the game in stealth, at least in some missions, or go in loud as an action hero but you should keep in mind that some missions will require stealth to complete them.

Hack the planet?

Easy there Sombra!!! No no no it's not that intense but hacking is a big part of the game. In a lot of missions it will play a part, wether it's to find people, follow people without being seen or to infiltrate the security of a building. Some of the hacking puzzles can be a bit frustrating because there are timers, but with some practice it shouldn't be that much of a problem, besides if you fail you can always retry and it's not immediately game over. With your skill points you can unlock new skills and abilities, which also include things you can hack. You can easily earn money, I think I earned a hundred thousand within an hour by just hacking people and then getting money from their bank account. This is easy and a good way to get money, just be careful not to die because that will reset everything and you lose all the hacked information you need for the money. Before you know it you have the best weapons in the first couple of hours of the game.

Never a boring moment?

There might be some things wrong with Watchdogs but there is so much to do! You can play chess, a full match or solve some chess problems (getting checkmate as fast as possible), play poker, play the slot machines, play virtual games on your phone with virtual reality, play drinking games and even go on a digital trip which loads complely different games that are actually fun to play. Then there are a lot of extra missions like fixer missions where you have to distract the cops and deliver cars as fast as possible without damaging them too much. There are boss hideouts where you have to take down a certain criminal without killing him. An enemy convoy where you have to stop a criminal in a car and then either kill him or beat him down. If  that's not enough there is a serial killer on the loose you can track down by investigating the bodies he leaves behind, find gun smugglers by tracking down weapon crates, stop people who where at an auction for people by scanning their suitcases and you can scan AR codes in the city. Oh you can also hack into certain buildings to see what people are doing inside, hack codes for more collectibles and you can find phones to find out more about the guy that killed someone you cared about. There is really so much you can do, so much you can collect or investigate that this will seriously keep you busy for quite some time! The best part is that there are achievements/trophies for most of them as well so you also get a nice reward if you decide to go for all of this.

What makes this game so much fun?

The possibilities, there is so much you can do and so much you can explore. But if you just want to drive around listening to some cool music (singers and bands like Alice Cooper, Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins, Chicago and Vampire Weekend) you can do that as well. You can even turn on the music when you are outside your car and go collectible hunting, which makes things a lot better and you can switch between songs if you don't like one. Watchdogs is a pretty relaxing but also challenging game at certain points. It might not be for everyone but it's free for Xbox One players who have a gold membership on Xboxlive, so you might want to check that out! I don't know how long the game will keep you busy but keep in mind that there is also a multiplayer option where you can race against other players or invade their game and try to hack their information for a reward. You can turn this on and off, so you don't have to deal with that if you don't want to. All of these things are fun to do and should keep you busy for quite some time. An excellent way to get through some boring days if not weeks in the middle of Summer!
