Movie Monday: Scream

It's time to talk about a movie that is a bit older, a movie that I really like and made horror movies quite interesting to me. The even older teen slasher movies aren't movies I was interested in as a kid, I thought those were dumb entertainment and had no story only kills in it. But Scream actually showed me that a teen slasher movie can have a story and even humor in it, which makes these movies more fun to watch. But how good is Scream really and should you watch it?


Not the same type of teen slasher movie?


What I really like about Scream is that it's not your typical teen slasher movie. Sure teenagers will die in this movie and yes the killer is crazy but the killer isn't some supernatural being and can be stopped. This already makes Scream more enjoyable for me, because not only is the killer someone you already met in the movie but there might even be more than one (I won't spoil things for you). What I also like about Scream is that the killer will call the main target, Sidney, to taunt her and threaten her. You might recognize this as well in the A Nightmare on Elm Street where Freddy will do the same but he does that in dreams while the killer in Scream does that on the phone. But it's really the humour that makes Scream so unique to me, because half of the movie you would laugh while with other teen slasher movies you might be scared or too amused with the killer killing teens (ok that sounds a bit disturbing).


Who is the killer?


With a lot of teen slasher movies you already know who the killer is, it's usually this supernatural being or just a person that can't seem to die and will constantly try to kill people that get in his or her way. We all know who Freddy, Jason and Michael are. But who is the killer in Scream? Ok if you saw the movie then you know who the killer is, but when you first saw it did you know who the killer was? If you're being honest then it would be difficult to figure that out because it's not that obvious, unless you are really good at guessing or maybe you actually did pick up some clues during the movie. The thing is that the killer could be anyone and that makes it more interesting for the viewer, because it's a lot closer to home with being real than the killers from a lot of other teen slasher movies.


What makes this movie so good?


Several things, but the humour and the characters are actually what make this movie so much fun to watch. With the first movie still being the best from all the Scream movies I have to admit that the original is often the best and Scream isn't an exception! I'm not saying that Scream is an amazing movie, but it did bring back teen slasher movies that kind of disappeared in the early 90's. Maybe some people prefer other teen slasher movies but Scream will probably always be my favourite. I guess it's mostly thanks to the good memories I have about this movie and how much fun it is to watch it.

Button bashing

It seems that more and more games want you to smash on the buttons of the controller, which seems like fun but knowing that this weak piece of plastic can´t handle much it´s not the smartest way to handle your controller. In the good old arcade days I could smash on buttons, ok nothing too crazy but at least those machines had a lot more resilience than these weak controllers we have now. You have to pay a small fortune for one of them and they fall apart with the slightest bit of force you use. After smashing a couple of controllers out of frustration I learned to be careful with them, but when games force you to be an agressive button basher it doesn´t really help. Button bashing is nothing new but I do seem to see it in more and more games, even games that could easily do without this abusive way of treating your controller. Movie Monday: Mr & Mrs Smith

There are movie that might not look good at first, when you hear about it, but once you see the movie then you know that it's a fantastic movie. What really made Mr & Mrs Smith so good was the acting of the two main stars in the movie, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. They had so much fun making this movie that it's an absolute joy to watch the movie. Which is good news for people that are looking for a fun movie to watch! Married to a spy? The story of Mr & Mrs Smith is pretty simple, a man is a spy and marries to a woman not knowing that she's a spy too. Apparently both of them are unaware of eachothers activities until their paths cross in their spy life, which leads to a lot of fighting and explosions. It's really not the action that makes this movie so much fun to watch but it's the humour. Sinful Sunday: Why are you so serious?

When I play a game I don't want to be serious, I just want to have fun and relax. Honestly real life is serious enough and I don't need that in games. Who cares who wins or who loses, just have fun and that already makes it great! Unfortunately there are gamers that take certain games way too serious, so serious that they literally forget to have fun which is quite frustrating to deal with. These kind of players are so serious that they probably left the fun behind when they started the game. Sigh... Serious gamers are lame gamers?
