Payday 2: Crimewave edition
I wanted to buy this game already in 2015 but since I bought Payday 2 already for my Xbox 360 I didn't feel like spending fifty Euros on pretty much the same game but now for my Xbox One. But when I saw that the game was for sale I decided to buy it anyway and I must admit that I don't regret it. Oh sure it's still the same game but with a lot of extras and that makes playing it a lot of fun!
What's new in the crimewave edition?
One of the things that really surprised me is the new characters, I didn't expect that and they add some new faces and masks to the game. First you have Hoxton, if I'm not mistaken this was the name of the fourth robber (the one with the ghost skill tree) but apparently they changed his name to Houston, and he is a guy from England with a scar on his face. Then there's Clover, a woman from Ireland that seems to enjoy a fight. Another European addition is Dragan from Croatia, he's a former cop that now has a criminal career in the USA. And finally there's John Wick, wait...John Wick?!!! Yes you know that killing machine from the movie with the same name. What's cool about Wick is that he doesn't wear a mask, he just puts his sunglasses on. You also get a lot of new places to rob, eventhough some of them are pretty much similar, for example when you pull a heist on some armored trucks. The location changes, the amount of trucks changes but it still comes down to the same stuff. But that doesn't make this a bad game, it actually offers you a lot to do and leveling up goes pretty fast with a new system that gives you bonus experience if you haven't played a certain heist for quite some time and of course play it on a high difficulty. Instead of three higher difficulties you now have a fourth, this one is called deathwish and I think it only becomes available once you hit level 50 and then it will be very difficult for you to beat it but also very rewarding! You also face a new cop, this guy is called a cloaker and can elimnate you with one melee strike. So having a shotgun with you for a quick defensive kill is useful because these guys don't fuck around! There are also new weapons, for example the sniper rifle, the light machine gun and melee weapons. You also get a lot of new masks that you can unlock, some of those look very cool!
But the game is pretty much the same?
Certain things are definitely still the same. For example if you play offline (solo) then you get two bots as team mates and they still suck, a lot! They don't carry bags, will often stand in the open getting shot a lot and will sometimes even leave you to die in some situations. So I would suggest playing with other players the moment you feel comfortable with that, of course it's smart to first level up a bit and unlock some nice skills which is something you can do pretty fast in this game in the first fourty levels. Some of the old missions are also still in the game, which isn't a bad thing because you can use those for easy experience, money and sometimes even achievements/trophies. The music also starts to play loud, sometimes really loud, when the police charges you with a group of douchebags. Some might like this, others will probably hate it. I think Payday 2 Crimewave edition is a fun game, it still has some frustrating and annoying elements from Payday 2 and the Crimewave edition also added some more frustrating elements (the cloaker is definitely one of them) but if I'm honest then I have to admit that I'm having a lot of fun with this game! So if you're interested in this game then I can definitely recommend it, but it does help if you have friends to play with or you could just try your luck in the online portion of the game and hope that you find a team of friendly players.
