You can't let go of a certain game?

Sometimes there are amazing games you just can't let go, the type of games that have such a huge impact on you that you can't imagine letting go of that game. But time doesn't stand still, computers get upgrades all the time and consoles also get better versions. Eventually your game will become a relic and the console you play on will no longer be for sale in the shops and it kind of makes you awkward to still hold on to that. But what if you hold on to that game? Is it really so bad or is it actually quite natural to hold on to that game?

Games are sometimes much more than just games?

Absolutely! When I look at games like the legend of Zelda: the Ocarina of Time and Final Fantasy VIII then I can say that these games have a huge impact on my life and that I really enjoyed playing them and even now many years later I still enjoy playing them. Ok the graphics look a lot worse now but if you don't care about such things then you got yourself a gem and why would you want to get rid of a gem? Maybe some people make fun of you to hold on to that old game but if that game means a lot to you then I wouldn't let go of that game! Even if you just save it in your closet or in a box, it's the memories that are tied to that game that make it special to you and I wouldn't want to let go of that!

But what if you can't play the game anymore?

Unfortunately with consoles this can be an issue, sure you can also hold on to the console you need to play the game but when that console is broken and it can't be fixed anymore it becomes difficult if not impossible to play that game. Especially when the console is no longer for sale and you don't know where to get another console like that one. You could try retro game shops, sometimes they have old consoles for sale as well, but sometimes it just means that you won't be able to play that game anymore. I'm not that much of a tech guy so maybe I'm missing out on some tricks to still be able to play old games, but if there are ways then by all means feel free to check those out because it would really suck if you couldn't play your favourite game anymore. But do you know it's not a terrible thing if you can't play your favourite game anymore? Ok sure it sucks but at the same time the game will live forever in your mind as one of the most amazing games you've played. Sometimes you make the games a bit better than they truly are, for example Goldeneye 64 is a fantastic game but of course there are flaws in that game as well. The thing is that you don't always remember those when you haven't played the game for almost fifteen years.

It's ok to hold on to old games?

Sure why not? Eventhough it's a bit of a shame if you keep them locked up in a box when you could play them or give them to someone who could play these games. I gave my old NES and SNES + all my games with those consoles away, because they were gathering dust in my room and I would rather that someone else has fun with those games. But it's not a crime if you prefer to keep them yourself. For example keeping your games can give you a nice trip down memory lane every time you see them, but games you really like you will never forget and you don't even need to keep them to remember those. It's difficult to let go sometimes but it's not the end of the world, new games are made every day and those are also worth checking out. In life you have to move on, you can't sit still and let life pass you by. It's pretty much the same with games, sure you can hold on to old games but it's good to move on to new games and try out other new things. Because the games that really matter will always be with you in your heart and mind!
