Do you pre-order games?

In my NES, SNES, N64, Playstation, Playstation 2, Gamecube, Xbox and even with the Xbox 360 I hardly ever pre-ordered a game. What's the point of that? Well in the old days there wasn't really a point for that and when you couldn't buy games on the internet you would have to pre-order in a shop and that usually meant to keep a game aside so you would have one on launch day. But now with all the extras and bonuses it becomes more interesting to pre-order a game, especially if it gives you early acces so you can play the game earlier or get early acces in the beta which means you can get familiar with the game. It might not seem like a big deal but wouldn't you rather play a game sooner than later?

So now it's smart to pre-order a game?

With certain games it's definitely a smart idea, especially if it's going to be a popular game. Because popular games have the nasty habit of not being available when you want to buy them on launch day and you didn't pre-order one. Sometimes you still get screwed, for example with Metal Gear Solid V I pre-ordered the special edition but that became unavailable two days before launch eventhough I pre-ordered it months before that date. So I had to find a place where I could pre-order the game just a couple of days in advance, well that was difficult! So pre-ordering a game doesn't just give you something extra (with some games at least), it also gives you a much better chance to play the game on the day of release. These days that's important because a lot of people play games and when a lot of people want to play the same game as you then things get a bit nasty if there aren't enough games for everyone!

But what if you don't want to pre-order games?

Well no one is forcing you, in fact it's really your choice if you want to pre-order a game or not. I'm just saying that it's often smarter to pre-order a game than not pre-ordering a game. If you rather want to wait if the game is going to be fun to play then I can understand that you wait, that you don't want to play the game on launch day. That makes sense and it's probably a much safer bet than taking a gamble with a game, it could save you some money and that's never a bad thing! If the game is fun to play then you can always buy it later, at least if it's still available. Otherwise you have to wait a bit longer. I learned to value pre-ordering games, something I never did before but with the internet and popular games it becomes almost natural sometimes. Because why take a risk and being one of the people who can't play the game on launch day or standing in line in a shop to buy a popular game when you can get it delivered to your door on launch day. It makes so much sense if you think about it. At least that's how I see it, if you prefer to do thing on your own way then that's good for you I guess. I'm just saying that it's not a bad idea to sometimes pre-order a game to save yourself some time and give yourself a better chance to get the game on the day of release. If you get something extra with that then that's a nice bonus!
