Gamers are getting angrier?
Just looking at my own behaviour I have noticed that I'm getting angrier, but it's not just me because a lot of times I see and hear people getting angry over nothing. For example someone is trying to get an achievement but fails and that can sometimes lead to a lot of anger. But also getting killed twenty times by a camper in online multiplayer is usually something that can make you angry. Of course now talking about it doesn't really show how frustrating gaming sometimes can be, but I think most of us who have played games know that games can be frustrating. The increased amount of frustration brings more anger, which then leads to some angry gamers.
Gamers have changed?
In all honesty I can't say that I changed that much, I was always an asshole that got angry very quickly so I can't say that this counts for me. But I think that maybe some people have experienced some more negativity from gaming and perhaps have gotten more negative with that experience themselves. For example when everything goes wrong in a game and you just don't make any progress then it probably won't surprise you that this person isn't having a good day. So this bad experience with gaming puts you in a bad mood, which then often makes things from bad to worse. I guess in that way gaming can be toxic, but it's up to you to notice that before it gets out of hand. So when things are going bad it's better to stop, not completely but just take a break and continue when you've calmed down a bit. What helps for me is watching some funny youtube videos or talking with friends, just get something positive in your life and things should be getting better. What you don't want to do is to continue playing the game that frustrates you and drive yourself crazy with anger, because there are no winners in that scenario!
Games these days make you angrier?
It really depends what kind of games you like to play. For example when I play Life is strange then I have no problems with anger or frustration, the game is more like a story you play and there is no real losing in that game because the game rewinds itself mostly when you make mistakes and sometimes certain mistakes are just seen as choices. But in online competitive multiplayer games, for example CoD and Battlefield, there is a lot of frustration and things can get very ugly if you're not careful! Especially if you play for a long time with random people, because there is often no communication and that often leads to disaster when you play against a team that is working together and is communicating. That makes things a lot more frustrating for you and will often lead to anger. So it helps if you play with friends or at least try to communicate with your team mates, of course that's easier said that done because some people just don't want to communicate and not everyone has friends that play on the same console or play the same games as you. But I have noticed that achievements and trophies can sometimes make games extra frustrating, because you try so hard to get something done and because of one fuck up you miss out on that achievement or trophy. Which means you either have to restart, load a previous checkpoint or in multiplayer try your luck in another match. So it's probably healthier if you just accept that you're not going to get all achievements or trophies in a game, because that can save you a lot of frustration and time!
It's not just gamers that get angrier?
It's easy to say that gamers are the problem, but you must have noticed that the anger spreads to all sorts of forms of social media and also when you just walk on the street and watch a random encounter between two people hitting eachother for no good reason. There is more anger now then there ever was, at least it certainly feels that way to me. Maybe it's because there is more stress and frustration, which often leads to anger, now and that makes people more violent and agressive. But there's also the loss of respect for eachother. People that have opinions and share these opinions online sometimes get attacked by random people with faceless accounts, maybe some of them just try to be assholes to others while I think that others have some serious issues if you behave like that towards others online. There's nothing wrong with having a different opinion, but there are more civilized ways of talking with eachother and insults aren't a part of that. Sometimes even in politics you can see people attacking eachother, I guess you can laugh at that (I know that I sometimes laugh at that) but in all honesty it's sad that representatives of your country behave like children and that really makes me wonder where the world is going sometimes. I guess at these times I just want to close my door and play games, because the outside world is sometimes just too crazy even for me!
