Overwatch vs Team Fortress 2
I've seen some people compare Overwatch with Battleborn but I don't think those two games should be compared because they're very different. But Overwatch reminds me a lot of Team Fortress 2, a game I really like and even up to this day I still play sometimes, so it makes more sense to compare it to Team Fortress 2. So the question is, which game is better and more fun to play?
Overwatch is pure fun?
That's how I first saw it, but I learned that Overwatch definitely has a competitive side and if you face certain teams then you will learn that fun can easily turn into frustration! But that doesn't make Overwatch a bad game, it makes a game you have to learn and with practice you get better at. Especially if you find some characters that work well with your playstyle. So if you enjoy charging into battle then Reinhardt might be your type of character but if you prefer to flank more then Tracer and Reaper are more your cup of tea. If you like to heal and stay in the back then Mercy is good for you, if you like to heal in the front lines then Lucio is a better choice and if you like to heal but also be able to deal out a lot of damage then Zenyatta is the best character for you. If you like to be the sniper you can choose two characters, Hanzo with his bow and arrows and Widownmaker with her sniper rifle. If you enjoy building things more then Torbjörn is a good choice if you want to build a turret, but with Symmetra you can build a teleporter and tiny drones that will blast the shit out of enemies! So once you found your favourite(s), then the real game begins and the game also becomes a lot more fun to play.
Team Fortress 2 is easier to learn?
That's true, the controls for most of the characters in Team Fortress 2 is pretty much the same while every character in Overwatch has unique controls. That makes is harder to learn, unless you focus on just a couple of characters. But let's be honest, if you can play as 21 characters then you probably want to play as 21 characters even if you just want to try them out. Overwatch is more of a challenge, some characters might be easy learn but they'll be difficult to master and that offers a challenge which is definitely not a bad thing. It's easy to get discouraged by some characters in Overwatch, but once you learn to use them correctly and know their moves by heart then you can really become a fearsome opponent! With Team Fortress 2 it's more casual, every character is useful in its own way. While Overwatch has characters that are good in certain situations, if the situation changes then it's often smart to also change characters.
Which game is better?
I think a lot of people will always keep Team Fortress 2 in their heart as a fun and enjoyable game, but I have to be honest and say that Overwatch is taking over and creating even more fun and possibilities. I really enjoy the diversity of the characters and the abilities they all have. That makes trying new characters fun and exciting while it's good to have a couple of characters you're good with that you can use as back up when things aren't going well. In Team Fortress 2 you only have one healer while Overwatch has three different types of healers, so there should be something for you in it as well. You can play as a certain role, for example damage dealer, tank, healer or builder and still have diversity in that role. None of the characters are exactly the same or play exactly the same, that makes Overwatch a bit overwhelming at times but also a lot of fun to learn and play. I think that Overwatch is an evolved version of Team Fortress 2 so that means that it is better, at least that's my opinion. Both games are a lot of fun to play but I'm really excited to play Overwatch again once it launches on the 24th of May, until then I can always go back to Team Fortress 2 for nostalgic reasons and also because it's fun to play!
