Overwatch tips and tricks
I see a lot of people in Overwatch that are often playing like idiots, mostly because they try to do a solo act when the enemy team is giving a teamwork performance and will utterly crush anyone that's dumb enough to stick to the lone wolf tactics. Of course you can have a good flanking move as a Reaper, annoy the defenders as Tracer, block the entrance or hold the point as Mei and waste enemies from a distance as Hanzo or Widowmaker. But you're still a part of a team and if there is no communication or teamwork then it becomes a lot harder to win, especially if you face a team that is communicating and working together!
How do I become better Overwatch player?
The easy answer is practice, but practice alone won't save you. You can practice all you want with certain characters but some are just easier to handle than others and you have to be honest to yourself and accept that some characters are just not your thing. For example I know I'm a terrible sniper and even if I select a sniper I will switch if I keep missing and the team needs something else. That means I adapt to situations, which is something I don't see other people do. Some people want to play as a character and will stick to that character no matter what, which makes you pretty much a burden to the team when you hardly get any kills or do anything useful with that character. You might not expect it but Overwatch is a game where strategy can change the battle. Which means it doesn't hurt to change tactics and try other characters, I mean there are 21 characters so I bet there are several characters that you're going to like.
Some characters are impossible to beat?
I've been in those situations, for example a team had two Torbjörns, two Bastions, a Junkrat and a Mercy. So you can image the amount of damage that they can fling at you the moment you step outside the spawn room. It seems hopeless to beat this but you should realize that every character in the game can be countered with another character, it's the trick in finding this character. So if the other team has multiple of the same character then one or maybe even two people on your team could and really should play as the character you can counter with. So a Bastion is vulnerable to snipers (Hanzo, but especially Widowmaker), Phara, Junkrat and even Tracer can put a sticky bomb on the Bastion and recall out of there. A Torbjörn is also an annoying character but a Reinhardt can easily block the damage of his turret and then others can easily shoot it too pieces, once again the snipers can destroy the turret from a safe distance or Junkrat can just destroy it around a corner if he bounces his grenades on a wall. If you have problems with snipers then Reaper is your solution, he can teleport behind them and then shoot them in the back. Tracer is also good for distracting snipers and killing them as close range. When you face a team that has multiple Junkrats then you can use Reinhardt to block the damage and others shoot him, use snipers to kill them from a distance or once again go for the close range tactics with Reaper and Tracer. Roadhog is also an ideal character to hook people towards you, so getting an annoying camper on an elevated position isn't a problem with Roadhog in your team. These are just some examples of ways to counter certain characters, every character can be countered just try different tactics and characters and eventually you will figure it out.
What kind of mistakes do new players often make?
The biggest mistake you can make is try a new character for the first time against a well organized team, that means you're going to be at a disadvantage. It's smarter to first test a new character in the practice range or play against bots, that way you can learn what works and how you should play as that character. Mistakes I often see are Tracers that forget to recall, which can often save their life, and Reapers that teleport directly next to someone, the problem with that is that you can't move for a moment when you teleport but the others can shoot and damage you which makes you very vulnerable! I also see people playing as Mei and then never step on the objective, Mei is the ultimate blocker and can stop people from capturing an objective but if you don't put yourself on the objective you're not very helpful. Another thing I notice is that a lot of people don't want to play as Reinhardt or as one of the healers, I'm not saying that you need these to win but it can make things so much easier! Another thing I notice is that a lot of people always attack in a straight line, they go from spawn point to the point where the enemies are and get killed. There are often ways to flank and surprise the other team and if you work well with your team you can attack on two sides at the same time with your ultimates activated. This will often destroy a bad defense and help your team move forward. The most important thing is communication, for example let people know if a Reaper teleported behind enemy lines. Help people on the point and don't always assume that they can handle it. Always try to keep your healer alive, because if the healer dies the team often quickly follows. Hopefully this helps you in the game a bit and best of luck in the next match you play!
