Overwatch, the best first person shooter ever?
That would be a lot of praise for a game that just came out, but the hype around this game and of course the pure fun you can experience when playing this game really makes you believe that sometimes. But it's not just fun, there is also frustration (in certain teams that don't work together and/or don't play for the objective) and anger when things aren't working out. As much as you might want to see this as a valid point I do think it's just an opinion, because one moment you enjoy the victory and the other moment you have to suffer a defeat. It's all part of the game!
What makes Overwatch so amazing?
It's pretty much the fun way of playing, because there's no brutal executions as you probably know from Doom multiplayer or too many sad campers as you would see in CoD multiplayer. It's just people playing as different characters and having a good time. Ok sometimes there are people that are lame, for example people playing as Bastion are really into camping and people playing as Genji and Tracer probably enjoy annoying other people. But it's pretty much the playstyle for these characters, sure you can hate them but do you hate Hanzo and Widowmaker for being snipers? It doesn't really make sense because people that pick certain characters should play differently instead of always trying to charge in, because that will often get you killed if you don't play as a tank character. This immediately brings me to my next point for Overwatch, it's the diversity and the many different playstyles that this game gives you. Every character is unique and playing as one character says nothing about another character, which means you pretty much have to learn 21 different playstyles if you want to be good with every character. So it wouldn't surprise me if people have like a top five of favourite characters and will probably try to get better with these characters. But the main reason why Overwatch is so much fun to play? Because it's really fun to play this game!
Easy to learn, difficult to master?
That's how you can describe Overwatch, you can play as every character and you might even do well the first time you play as that character. But to really learn all the tricks and techniques then you have to invest quite some time into these characters or just learn from other players. Overwatch gives you a lot of characters and that means there is probably a character just right for you, it's really the trick to find that character and get better with that character. But it's also nice that there are different classes so you can try something new and sometimes it is required that you pick something else when no one on your team wants to be the healer, the builder or the sniper. These might not be the classes you would've picked first but sometimes that leads to some unexpected surprises and might make you want to play as these classes more often. Some characters are much easier though that others, for example Bastion is pretty much the ultimate noob character so even if you suck you could get quite a lot of kills with Bastion and also Soldier 76 and Junkrat can give you a lot of kills. Especially Junkrat that can just spam grenades and rain death and destruction on the enemy team.
Should you play Overwatch?
If you like first person shooters and definitely first person shooters in the Team Fortress 2 style then Overwatch is the game for you! Because it's not really about k/d or getting the most kills. It's often objective based and the play of the game can be of the losing team as well so being the winner doesn't always mean that you were the best! The main idea for Overwatch is having a good time, sure teamwork is important and communication can really make a difference! But I've played in random teams without communication and still had a good time and winning some matches. Unfortunately there's also frustration but I doubt that can be avoided in online competitive multiplayer, especially when you play with strangers and there's no communication. Overwatch is more fun if you play with friends and form a team, that makes winning a bit easier and gives you a better chance for succes. If you enjoy collecting stuff and customizing your characters then you're also in luck because there are different outfits, emotes, voice lines, poses, intro animations and sprays you can collect with loot boxes that you get every time you level up. Honestly Overwatch will keep you busy for quite some time and thanks to the achievements and Trophies you'll learn most of the characters a lot better.
