Wild West Online, this isn't Red Dead Redemption 2?
I think when people saw some early screenshots from Wild West Online they probably thought they saw a glimpse of Red Dead Redemption 2. Nope, Wild West Online is actually a game and I have to admit that it looks interesting. If it will really be that much fun remains to be seen, but so far the game definitely looks interesting enough to check it out!
Be the cowboy or cowgirl you want to be?
From the gameplay trailer I got the idea that you can pick your own path in the game. You don't have to be good and you don't have to be bad, you can pretty much do what you want to do which is nice. You can commit crimes, steal or even kill other people, which will get you into trouble. Commit enough crimes and you'll get a high bounty on you and there will be a hunt for you. At the same time you can also collect bounties, so if you feel like doing something good you can hunt down people that are wanted and try to kill them for a bounty. If you're more of a social type then you can hang around in towns and play poker or roulette and drink with your pals in the saloon. But you can also team up with other people and do missions together or just go on an adventure together. You pretty much decide what your next step will be and hopefully you won't regret making that step.
Are there some customization options?
They only showed a small glimpse of that in the trailer but you can definitely customize your character. You can decide what gender you want for your character and what race, later you can also buy different outfits for your character so you don't have to hang around in your noob outfit the entire game. Unfortunately they didn't show the inside of the shop so how that exactly works and how many outfits there are for you to buy is unfortunately still a mystery. Hopefully it gives you a lot of options, you really don't want to walk around in a town and have four or five identical characters walking around you. As funny as that might be it does kind of suck when you all look the same.
Get Wild West Online or wait for Red Dead Redemption 2?
That is the big question isn't it? From what I saw you can only play Wild West Online on PC so for console players the choice is pretty simple. PC gamers could try their luck with Wild West Online, especially if you have friends to play it with. I think the focus in this game and what makes your chance on succes a lot higher is teaming up with others and form gangs to take on other players or missions. Something that did bother me was the first person walking animation, it looks kind of silly to me and if you don't know what I mean then you might want to check out the gameplay trailer. I think that Wild West Online has some potential but as a console player I don't think this game is for me. I'll just wait for Red Dead Redemption 2 which is for consoles.
