Sinful Sunday: When a game is more frustrating than fun
I like playing games, mostly because I think it's fun to play games. Unfortunately there are games that are more frustrating than fun, which is something you don't always discover from the start. At that point you have to decide if you want to keep playing the game, for example to finish the game or to get as many achievements/trophies as you can get, or if you want to get rid of the game as fast as you can!
Fun turns into frustration?
Some games start really good, the opening is good and you like what you're doing. The characters are interesting and the story is also interesting, you want to keep playing to see what happens next. But then there are moments where you face some frustration, gameplay elements you don't like, for example a forced stealth part or a really tough boss you need to beat, and that ruins the entire experience for you. I've seen this happen a lot of times and every time I try to stay calm and just get it over with but every time I get so annoyed with the game. Why is this in the game? Why couldn't the developers just leave it out? I guess some developers want to make the game more diverse and other developers just want to put these type of difficulty spikes in a game to make certain people don't beat their game too quickly. But as lame as beating a game too quickly might be it's definitely worse when you're stuck or have to deal with a very frustrating moment in a game. That's just not fun at all!
Keep playing or pass?
Some people will probably be quick to discard the game, I'd probably do the same if I wasn't such a stubborn scumbag. There have been moments where I tried to get an achievement or tried to get past some annoying moment in a game and I just kept trying, almost up to the point where I lost my mind! I don't like giving up, I hate it in fact. But sometimes it's probably better and definitely smarter to take a break, if you keep going at it then things usually go from bad to worse. Ok you probably feel happy when you get the achievement/trophy or get past the annoying moment in the game but how long did that take and how mad did you get? I like playing games but I know that there is a time for a break and as much as you want to keep trying you should always keep in mind that what doesn't work today might work out for you tomorrow. If a game is really that frustrating and you have absolutely no fun playing it anymore then you might want to consider just switching to another game. Honestly it's the smart move when every moment in the game is frustration and you just don't have fun playing the game anymore. If you're just like me playing games for fun then you lost your main motivation to play the game, at that point you really have to ask yourself why you're still playing the game when you're only experiencing frustration.
