Movie Monday: Sleepy Hollow

It's time for another blast from the past, Sleepy Hollow! I really like creepy stories and when one of those creepy stories finds itself turned into a movie then it's always a gamble if it's going to be good. I think that Tim Burton made a really good and also funny version of Sleepy Hollow. You have silly Ichabod Crane and then the creepy headless horseman on the other side, does that work in one movie? Actually it does!

A killer without a head?

That's already creepy enough, but then to imagine that this killer can't be stopped and keeps chopping off the heads of other people? Yeah definitely creepy! When Ichabod Crane, played by Johnny Depp, is asked to investigate some murders in Sleepy Hollow he just expects to find some disturbed guy killing other people, but unfortunately for him things aren't always that simple and mosters actually exist! At least in this movie. The movie doesn't try to be super scary but definitely has some jump scare moments or disturbing moments, so maybe it's not for everyone but it's definitely worth checking out if you like dark humour and a movie that has some horror elements in it.

Doesn't it get boring?

I know some people get easily bored with teen slasher movies, well I can assure you that this isn't a teen slasher movie! The headless horseman seems to kill people at random and nobody is save, not even in their own house! This brings a lot of terror into the hearts of all the people in Sleepy Hollow. But it's not the killings that make you stick around till the end, it's figuring out what exactly is going on. Is someone controlling the headless horseman and if so then what is the plan of this person? I have to admit that Johnny Depp steals the show as Ichabod Crane in almost every scene, often with silly moments where he is a bit clumsy or just unlucky.

Why should you check out this movie?

Because it's really good! Ok the movie is getting a bit older, it's from 1999, but that doesn't make it a bad movie! If you're sick and tired of all the happy and joyful crap Disney is trying to shove down your throat then this is the kind of movie to help you wash that away. The movie has a good story, good actors and definitely an ending you want to see. Even the smaller roles, like the headless horseman, are played by good actors, Christopher Walken plays as the headless horseman, and it's definitely worth checking this movie out even if it's just once. But I can say from experience that this is a movie you can watch multiple times, it stays funny and interesting!
