Movie Monday: Wonder Woman
As you probably know most DC super hero movies aren't doing so well lately. I mean looking at Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman and Suicide Squad. They're not bad movies, at least in my opinion, but they somehow felt a bit lacking of something. Could Wonder Woman finally be the movie that changes everything? Well I don't know about changing everything but it's a pretty good movie!
Diana does it again?
I know that not everyone is a big fan of Gal Gadot playing the role of Wonder Woman but in truth I actually liked her a lot in Batman vs Superman, so I was looking forward to this movie and I have to admit that the movie didn't disappoint. It has pretty much everything you need in a movie and maybe even something extra. The amazon fights are pretty cool, I mean how they battle the Germans with their melee weapons and bows is already quite the treat but the special effects look really cool! Later you see Diana also in action how she runs over the battlefield and just taking out Germans left and right. But what Wonder also has is humour, something that wasn't really that strong represented in some other DC movies. The movies kept getting darker, I don't mind that actually, but it seemed that this was at the cost of some humour, which is something that I do mind, so I'm glad that Wonder Woman keeps the best of both things here. Yes there are dark moments in the movie but there is also a lot of humour in the movie. That keeps things interesting and fun to watch, which is definitely not a bad thing!
Flashback movie?
At the start Diana is looking at a picture, she got that from Bruce Wayne, and thinks back of the people with her on the picture. So in a way the movie is just one big flashback, but don't worry you stay in the flashback until the end of the movie. It's not an Assassin's Creed type of movie that keeps switching between past and present. I really like this movie taking place in World War I, which shows you on one side the horror of war and on the other side how just a few people can make a difference. Ok so one of them is a super hero, it doesn't ruin anything in my opinion. Maybe Diana seems a bit overpowered but I can assure you that, without spoiling anything, not everyone is that weak against her.
Is this movie worth checking out?
I think it is, especially if you've seen the previous DC movies and want to see the build up towards the Justice League movie. The movie is funny, entertaining and even emotional at times. Hopefully this is the step forward for DC and that the next movies will be just as good or maybe even better. I can definitely recommend this movie to you if you like DC hero or just super hero movies. This movie doesn't get boring and has a lot to offer, so feel free to check it out!
