Movie Monday: Spider-Man Homecoming

I was really curious about this movie, but at the same time I was also a bit worried. The last Spider-Man movie I saw was the Amazing Spider-Man 2 and that movie made me depressed. So you can imagine I wasn't completely certain about Spider-Man Homecoming being a fun movie to watch. But Spider-Man Homecoming is actually a very good and funny movie, so definitely a movie you would want to watch!

Peter and Tony team up?

Well...yes and no. I don't think this is a spoiler but I think it's safe to say that this movie isn't really the focus on them teaming up. Tony Stark is more a mentor to Peter Parker, helping him out a bit and also cleaning up his mess when he makes mistakes. It's interesting  to see Spider-Man as the fan boy in this movie, because he really wants to be an Avenger so he tries to impress Tony constantly. This already leads to some funny moments but there's much more to this movie than just that. But you should keep in mind that this is a Spider-Man movie, so Ironman plays a small role (more of a support role) in this movie. But he's a nice addition to the cast and definitely makes the movie more enjoyable.

Not your typical villain?

In a lot of super hero movie you encounter villains that want to conquer the world or destroy the world. It's usually some over the top plan or crazy idea that they want to do and it's up to the hero or heroes to stop this villain. What's interesting about the Vulture, the main villain in Spider-Man Homecoming, is that he doesn't want to rule the world or anything like that. He steals high tech to sell it for a lot of money. You could say he's just a robber, but a dangerous one with powerful weapons and his suit with wings makes him a dangerous opponent. I must admit that I like this approach to the Vulture, not some revenge motive or crazy plan but just trying to get rich. Later in the movie you might even feel some sympathy for the Vulture.

Why should you watch this movie?

Even if you're not really into super hero movies or action movies then this movie is still enjoyable because it's also a funny movie. At times it's more of a teenage experience movie and  that's not that much of a surprise because Peter Parker is only 15 in this movie, yes that surprised me too! So be prepared to see some awkward highschool moments, which we probably all had. There is a lot of action in this movie and a lot of things happening, so don't worry if you think that you're watching a drama. The most memorable part of this movie is for me the humour, I really needed this kind of Spider-Man movie after the Amazing Spider-Man 2 depression. I can definitely recommend Spider-Man Homecoming to you because it's a lot of fun and has a lot of great moments you can enjoy!
