Buy dlc or a new game?

When you don't have that much money you have to make choices with what you want to buy because you can't buy everything. This can be rough for some people, especially when there are multiple games you would like to buy and/or there's dlc for a game that you really want to get. Instead of making a rant of why this sucks I want to try and help you find out what would be the better choice. Hopefully it helps.

Dlc is worth buying?

I like to think so, especially for games that are a lot of fun. For example I bought the dlc for Fallout 4, Skyrim, Dragon Age Inquisition and Rainbow Six Siege. If a game is fun enough then it's worth spending some more money on the game. It's pretty much an investment for more fun with a game you already like. But no matter how much fun a game is sooner or later you will get tired of it, this is why dlc is so important because it can breath new life into a game and make it once more fun to play. I understand that you're not always convinced and this is why I would advice you not to buy dlc until you finished a game or at least have played the game enough to be convinced that the dlc is worth buying. You don't want to buy dlc for a game you don't like to play or a game you don't want to play anymore. Which is why I wouldn't advice you to buy dlc on the day the game launches. When I bought the Witcher 3 I didn't immediately buy the dlc, I first wanted to see if the game would be fun to play and if I would like the game enough to also buy the dlc. Well I did enjoy playing the Witcher 3, so I decided to buy the dlc the moment I was done with the game. This didn't just give me a lot of extra hours in a game I really enjoyed playing but also gave me a lot of new adventures and exciting moments in the game. So is dlc worth buying? It is, but you should always check first if you like a game enough to buy the dlc and also check if the dlc is for you. For example with the Evil Within I was less interested in the dlc. I like the game but the dlc didn't really add something for me that I needed or wanted.

New games are worth buying?

Sometimes they're absolutely worth buying. For example I didn't want to wait with Fallout 4 or Dragon Age Inquisition, I bought those games the moment they became available and I don't regret a thing. But sometimes it is smart to wait, because games like Fallout 4 and Dragon Age Inquisition have dlc and later there will be a game of the year edition that has the game with all the dlc for a much cheaper price than buying it all separately. So being patient can absolutely save you some money, but that does mean you have to be patient for at least a year (more or less) before you can play the game. That sucks but it can definitely save you some money, if that is what you're after. The problem with new games is that they're not always as much fun as you would think. For example For Honor and Friday the 13th (the game) are both games I didn't enjoy playing that much, to me if feels like I wasted money on those games. I'm not saying that they're bad games, I'm saying that I don't enjoy playing these games that much. So buying a new game is always risky, you never know a hundred percent for certain if you really enjoy the game. Even with all the reviews you read, all the gameplay you've seen and perhaps even from your own experience in a demo. There is always a chance that the game isn't going to be that much fun to play. Which sucks, a lot! So it's smart to sometimes be more patient, not always being the person that gets the game as fast as you can and wait and see how good the game actually is. Perhaps renting the game first might be a good idea, that should hopefully give you a better idea if this is a game you're going to enjoy playing.

Should you buy new games or buy dlc?

It depends, if you don't have a lot of money then it might be a good idea to save you money for discounts. For example there was just a big Summer game sale on Xboxlive, you could buy games and some dlc really cheap! Usually there are sales at least a couple of times a year and it also helps if you're a gold member on Xboxlive, this doesn't just get you a nice discount on some games and dlc you buy in the Xbox store but you also get two free Xbox One and two free Xbox 360 games each month. So it's actually a pretty good investment! If you don't want to buy a gold membership or you play on another console or system and you really have to choose between new games and dlc then I would go for new games. Dlc is fun but dlc is just extra content for a game you already have. Don't get me wrong, this can be a lot of fun but should usually at most just give you about twenty hours extra in a game. A lot of times dlc doesn't even get you that much extra time in a game. But a new game can give you several days if not weeks, depends what kind of game you're buying, of fun and I think that's worth more. It's also more expensive but that's why I'm telling you to keep an eye for special offers. Don't be too quick to buy games, sometimes it's smarter to wait and that can sometimes give you some really nice surprises. For example yesterday I saw that Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor is for sale, the game is now only six Euros for gold members on Xboxlive. That's a really good deal for a game that looks really interesting! I never played the game before so now I can enjoy a game that has gotten a lot of good reviews and also a lot of praise from players for only six Euros. Honestly sometimes being patient is the best thing for people who don't have that much money, sooner or later the game or dlc you really want will be for sale and that's the moment you strike! But if you really want to buy something right now then go for what you think is worth more. I think a new game is worth more because it offers you more time, which makes it more valuable to me. But don't let me stop you from buying what you want, I'm just giving you some advice and my opinion.
