Sinful Sunday: KYS (Kill Yourself)
There was a time that you just said that someone is an asshole, scumbag, motherfucker or whatever the hell you could come up with in that moment of frustration or even anger. But now the standard answer to whatever someone says or does seems to be kys. At first I didn't know what that means, I'm not an acronym expert and English isn't my native language, but once you know what it means then you realize how sad people have gotten over the years.
Why do some people say kys?
Because some people are assholes? Well maybe they're more sad sacks of shit but the point is still that these people are the type of heroes that would insult you online but in real life probably wouldn't even dare looking at you in public. But that still doesn't really explain why they say it. The whole kys reply is the new way of being an asshole to others, eventhough some probably don't even see the harm in it. But in fact it is quite offensive to say, especially to those that have lost someone they cared about because they ended their own life. But I guess it's ok to say kys, it's not like you're man enough to actually write the words down. It's sad though that so many people seem to say it and often for nothing serious. For example someone says he or she likes the Power Rangers movie, someone will reply with kys. Someone is happy about a new game coming out, someone else will reply with kys. I've also gotten some kys messages from some sad sacks of shit on Xboxlive in Overwatch. I picked the new hero Orisa and I was playing as her, a guy in my team wasn't happy with my pick because he replied two minutes later in the match with kys. I think the biggest problem is that too many people say it just as a standard answer as if it's the new way of saying asshole. I want to believe it's just a bunch of kids not knowing what they're saying but the saddest thing is that adults are probably saying it too.
Why shouldn't you say kys?
It's pretty much the same reason why you shouldn't say the n word or the f word, I'll try to keep things a bit civilized here eventhough I know I'm not that civilized. It's offensive to say and it's often used for no reason at all other than the person saying it being a sad sack of shit. People often say kys to people they don't even know, just a random person they see or meet online and then they have to kill themselves? I don't expect people to be nice to eachother online and that's fine, I know we can't all be friends and I'm not asking for that. But you can at least be a bit respectful, instead of saying kys you can say that you disagree with what the other says. The best thing is probably just to ignore what the other says, if you truly disagree or if something truly bothers you then just ignore it. I guess you could say the same about people that say kys but stupidity isn't something you cure by looking the other way. So maybe think before you say something dumb like kys, it's getting old and is used way too much for no reason at all. Not that I can think a reason for saying it. Even if you don't really mean it it's still offensive to say. Sometimes it's just better not to say anything at all!
