The things you do for achievements/trophies

Have you ever gone out of your way to get a certain achievement or trophy? I'm not proud to admit it but I've done some dumb things, but at the time it really felt like it was worth it. Now years later I can't help but think I was a moron for putting so much time into getting one achievement. It really raises the question, is it worth it?

Why do you put so much time in getting an achievement or trophy?

Because some people like getting achievements and/or trophies, so it makes sense that some people try to collect all of them in one game. To me achievements give me a good feeling, like you accomplished something and considering I don't lead an exciting life it really feels good when you have that feeling. The more difficult it is to earn a certain achievement or trophy, the more accomplished it feels to earn it. On Xboxlive you can now see how rare an achievement is, if less than 10% of all the players that play that game have earned that achievement then it's considered as rare and that makes it more interesting to earn it. But at the same time it could also mean that you're just one of the first 10% to earn it. In a game like Overwatch, that's been out for almost a year, you can still see rare achievements and that makes it so interesting to earn them. Maybe some do it for bragging rights, some people just do it for fun, others have this need to get all achievements or trophies in each game and then there are people that really don't care and just happen to earn them while playing a game. Whatever your reason is it's a fun thing to do, earning achievements and trophies. Even if you don't care it's nice when something pops up on your screen and says you accomplished something, it feels good!

Why do some people have this need to get all the achievements/trophies?

Probably for the same reason why some put their efforts into other things, it's something that makes them happy and doing that gives them a good feeling. I've had shitty days and it really makes me feel good when I play a game and earn several achievements, at that point my shitty day is less shitty and I actually feel that I did something eventhough I didn't really do that much. The good thing about the achievements and trophies is that once you unlock them is that they're there, probably for as long as Xboxlive and PSN exist. In some games achievements/trophies give you acces to other gamer pictures, items for your avatar, backgrounds or rewards in the game. So it's not just this thing you can collect, there are definitely benefits to collecting achievements and trophies. Does that make sense to play a game for hours and hours just trying to get this one achievement or trophy? Probably not, but some people can be very extreme when it comes to getting certain achievements. I know that I had moments like that in Payday 2, where you had to do a mission in stealth and it came down to pure luckto get that achievement. Because you had to snip cables in alarm boxes and it was completely random which four boxes you needed to snip cables in, so if you picked the wrong one the alarm would go off and you could start over. This combined with guards patrolling and a lot of tension on you made it a frustration achievement but once you get it then you feel amazing, even if the feeling only lasts for a couple of hours. Maybe some people feel this way climbing a mountain, running twenty miles or diving into deep water but I just like to play games and earn achievements. I guess we all have our own things that make us happy. Which is a good thing because if we would all like the same things then the world would be a boring place!
