Movie Monday: Teen Titans: the Judas contract

Do you remember the Teen Titans? I mean before Teen Titans Go showed up? Now that was fun, seriously a good cartoon that was so much fun to watch. Then there was the trouble in Tokyo animated movie but after that silence. Last year we finally got some more Teen Titans action in the Justice League vs the Teen Titans. This was a step in the right direction, ok things aren't as good as they were in the cartoon series, and made me hope for more and we got more. Now we have Teen Titans: the Judas contract.

The Teen Titans are back?

Well yes and no, sure the Teen Titans are back but I must admit that I still prefer the Teen Titans cartoon from 2003. But I'm not one of those bitter douchebags that calls this movie bad or mediocre. I had a lot of fun watching Teen Titans: the Judas contract. There is a lot of humour in this movie and I couldn't help but laugh out loud several times. It's like they're trying to bring it back, not exactly as you remember but still this is so much better than some of the other DC animated movies I've seen, for example the Throne of Atlantis or Justice League War. Not only are the Teen Titans more fun but also have an interesting line up. Of course I miss Cyborg and seeing a teenage Raven while Nightwing and Starfire are adults is a bit weird as well. But certain things stay the same, for example the romance between Nightwing and Starfire is there and also Beast Boy has a romantic interest in Tara, the new addition to the Teen Titans. It's exactly this girl that is the focus in the movie and has a big secret. You switch between several characters which can be a bit confusing or annoying to some people but it does keep certain characters interesting. Robin actually plays a much smaller role in this movie which is surprising because in the last couple of movies he played usually a pretty big role. Also one of the most popular and biggest villains of the Titans, Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke, returns. So for the fans there is definitely something to see and I'm pretty certain a lot of people will like this movie.

What's going on with the Titans?

The Teen Titans are investigating Hive, a cult under the leadership of Brother Blood, and they're being helped by former Teen Titan Nightwing. At the same time you get to know Tara, a girl who seems to be pretty hostile towards her team mates, who has a big secret that no one on the team knows about. This story has already been shown in the comics and also in the cartoon I mentioned earlier, but it's nice to see the Titans return so it doesn't bother me unlike some people. You get a peek into the romantic life of Nightwing and Starfire, you see Beast Boy attempts to win over Tara's heart, Blue Beatle trying to get a normal job and a pretty disturbing relationship between Deathstroke and a teenager. Some people really don't like this movie, but I think it's pretty good. Maybe not as good as the cartoon you know and love from 2003 but it's definitely a big step in the right direction and I certainly hope you get to see more of this! The Justice League is good, the Teen Titans are just better in my opinion!
