Opinions about games and movies matter to people?

With each new movie and game that comes out there are people that write reviews about these movies and games, more often than not these reviews get a lot of hate. For example there are apparently two types of people that watched Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Justice, there are people that hate the movie and people that love the movie. Now the same can be said about Suicide Squad, some people love the movie while others hate it. Which really makes me wonder, are people really that diverse or are people just looking for confrontations? So if the majority likes it then you're going to dislike it just to annoy others? I also notice with games that some people have strong opinions about certain games, some will defend certain games until their dying breath while others hate certain games with a passion. I guess that's what happens when you release certain movies and games, some people will like them and others will hate them. There isn't much that you can do about that!

Are reviews important?

That depends, because if you ask me if reviews are important to me if I want to buy a game or watch a movie then no I don't think they're that important. But if I want to learn a bit more about a game or movie then a review can be helpful. Of course it depends on the review, especially when certain reviewers are just horrible people that can't stay objective and give their personal opinion about a game or movie but pretty much sell it as a fact. I think reviewers have a difficult job and it's not as easy as it looks, because it's easy to put personal opinions in your review and I doubt a lot of people are interested in that. Oh you don't like that movie or game because you personally hate this or that? Wow very interesting but this has of course no value to anyone else. But if you build up some solid arguments why a game is good or bad then that can be useful for anyone that reads the review. I know some people prefer to know as little as they can from a movie before they watch it or a game before they play it. I prefer to learn at least something, what kind of movie is it and is this something I would be interested in? Also is the game I'm interested in really something I want to pay 60 Euros for or is this the type of game I want to wait for until it drops in price? This isn't always something you can figure out on yourself, eventhough I do a lot of research myself before I want to watch a movie or play a game to avoid making horrible mistakes and wasting money. So yeah reviews do have importance, maybe not to everyone but some people do see the value in them.

Should you care about the opinion of someone else?

I would love to say no, because I think you should make up your own mind and watch movies or play games that you're interested in. But that doesn't mean that you should just ignore the opinions of others, especially when they build up some solid arguments. Ok people that just scream this game sucks or that movie is terrible without any arguments to give any strength to those claims are people you can ignore. But people that actually make the effort to tell you why the movie is bad or why this game sucks are people worth listening to, at least as long as they don't give away any spoilers! I prefer to make up my own mind and make my own decisions in life, but that doesn't mean I don't listen to what others have to say. Sometimes people can give you a unique point of view on a movie or game and that could influence you more than you know. It doesn't mean that the game or movie that you always loved will suddenly suck but they could give you something to think about. I think that's good, to have friendly communication between people and talk about things without insulting or threats. You don't all have to agree, that's why I call it opinions and not facts. In this blog I only give my opinion about things, I'm not saying that it's a fact because that would be a lie. I think it's important to have your own opinion but never claim that your opinion is a fact, because that's just wrong!
