Blizzard is harsh?
I think it's safe to say that Blizzard makes some amazing games, wether you're into a fantasy open world adventure or just want to blast other people in the face in a fun first person shooter. But I do think that Blizzard is harsh towards certain players. I'm not talking about cheaters though, I think that deserves to be punished and that makes perfect sense but the minor punishments in certain games can sometimes be quite extreme for some players.
Should you be punished for mistakes or certain things in games?
I think it's good that developers are trying to keep people from being douchebags in games. For example people that rage quit, people that use cheats and so on. Banning someone permanently is pretty extreme but you can say that this person can't do it again with that account, but what's keeping the cheater from creating another account and cheat some more? Also giving a leaver penalty for rage quitters is a good idea, but the system isn't flawless. People that get disconnected can also get the leaver penalty if this happens several times within an hour. That means you get 75% less experience and it really slows you down, you pretty much have to work off the leaver penalty by completing several matches and then you're getting all experience again. If you have a girlfriend like my girlfriend who thinks it's funny to join matches and while in the loading screen she leaves again and does that five to six times in a row then you end up with the leaver penalty as well, unfortunately she did this with my account and so I had to work off the leaver penalty which sucks! I personally don't think you should get the leaver penalty when you're still in the loading screen, you know before you even select a character, because you haven't even really joined the match yet and if you immediately leave then no harm is done. Because someone has already left the team and filling in the open spot isn't something everyone wants to do! So Blizzard is pretty much forcing people to fill up teams, often losing teams and you have to deal with that or you get a leaver penalty that will slow down your progression a lot towards the next level and loot box. I also heard that some people use small alterations in their Overwatch game (I think they did that for different colours or something like that) and got banned for life, which seems harsh for something like that. I mean if they actually put stuff in the game that would give them an unfair advantage then I can understand why they got banned but for a small alteration that has no effect on you winning more or ruining the game for others it's just way too much punishment.
People shouldn't be punished?
I'm not saying that! Some people rage quit way too much and you pretty much screw your team over with that, if you do this a lot then it's good you get punishment for it but instead of an experience debuff you could also make it impossible for them to join a match for the next 30 minutes. Because some people don't care about loot boxes or leveling up, so you don't really stop them with the leaver penalty. The problem is that it's difficult to stop people from being douchebags in games, because these people won't change and no matter what you do as a developer you can't keep them out of your game. Of course it would be nice if we could all get along and that we would all just have fun playing the game, unfortunately that's fantasy and it will never be reality. I do appreciate when they try to fix things or prevent annoying things from happening, but you can't really protect players from all that. There will always be people that rage quit and there will always be people that cheat, that can't be avoided nor can it be stopped completely. I guess you can only do that much and hope that it scares off the rest, it probably won't but every person that wanted to cheat or rage quit and didn't is already a small victory.
