Gamers don't talk with eachother on consoles?
In a lot of YouTube videos of people playing a game on PC there is usually a lot more talking going on, something I don't see or should I say hear on the console versions of the same game. This kind of makes me wonder, do console gamers hate communication or are PC gamers just more social?
Why do console gamers refuse to talk with eachother?
That's a good question, the answer however isn't going to be that easy. What I find weird is that everyone that buys the Xbox One gets a microphone with it and yet whenever you play a game online it seems that no one actually uses this microphone. Oh sure there are some exceptions but most people that actually do use their microphone often use it to troll other players or use it to shout at team mates. I really miss moments where you can just communicate with a team mate and this person talks back. So for example I'm warning my team mates in Rainbow Six Siege that there is an enemy behind them and they actually respond instead of ignoring you. The same can be said about Overwatch, Black Ops 3 multiplayer and zombies. Sure you can play these games without ever talking, but the chance on succes becomes a lot bigger when you work together and you work much better together when you communicate. For example you let people know of an enemy that's trying to flank you or warn people for a camper and tell them his or her location. It's a small effort but for some people it must be as if their teeth have to be pulled out because hardly anyone does it.
Why are PC gamers more talkative?
I have no idea, at least if I have to be honest with you. I'm not saying every PC gamer is super social but the chance on finding social people in PC games is a lot bigger than trying to find them in a console game. Perhaps because PC gamers are more mature? Oh wait that's a joke! But seriously what makes people want to talk in the PC version of the game while people in the console version of the game stay quiet most of the time. You would expect less people to talk in PC games because you would have to buy a microphone seperately while with consoles you get the mic with the console, so you would expect more people to talk in console games and yet the opposite is actually true. I guess it's also easier to talk with a keyboard at your disposal, so you can type instead of actually talk. It might not be as fast as talking but it's better than nothing. Sometimes I hear someone on the mic in a console game, this person is coughing and making other noises but never says one word the entire match. I guess people are sometimes just a bit scared to start talking.
People are afraid to talk?
Not everyone of course, but some people are probably not so comfortable with talking in a multiplayer game. What are you going to say? How will the other people respond to you? What if no one says anything? I guess these are all things that go through the mind of someone who has his or her mic plugged in but this person is hesitating to say something. It might be scary for some people, but the thing is that you don't have to do a book report but you can just say something useful. For example warn people, give moral support or just a simple thank you when someone helps you. Sometimes that can make all the difference in a match and a team of tough opponents can suddenly be a lot easier to beat when you actually communicate and work together. I must admit that I kind of give up hope on communicating with my team in certain games, when no one says anything and no matter what you say it stays silent then it just feels like you're wasting your time. Maybe that is the problem for console gamers, people just don't believe in communicating anymore and just accept that nobody says anything. I wish I could change that but then again I'm just one guy, it's not like I can change the minds of everyone...
