Dlc shouldn't exist?

I often hear people how they're upset that they have to pay for things that should be in the game itself, for example in some games you have to pay for dlc and then you get new characters, maps or weapons. This is all great but the part where you have to pay extra is where people often get upset. I get that, because it sucks when you have to pay extra for something that should be in the game. But is it always that easy? Do we need dlc or can we have games without dlc?

Dlc brings new life to "old" games?

You can hate developers for asking money for dlc but dlc does do a lot of good for a game, for example a game that you haven't played for months suddenly becomes more interesting with new dlc. You can go on new adventures, play against other people on new maps with new weapons or it could be something completely different that allows you to do new things that you couldn't do before in the game. Sure it sucks if you have to pay for it but if the developers give you something then you can't expect this always to be free, especially when it's pretty big. Thanks to dlc I sometimes dive back into games I haven't play for a long time, for example I got back into Dragon Age Inquisition after not playing it for more than a year thanks to the dlc. I doubt I would've gone back to the game without the dlc, because if you played pretty much every quest and did almost everything you can do in the game then things can get boring real fast. So dlc gives you new things to do and hopefully brings no life to a game you thought you were done with.

Paying for dlc sucks?

It does, but you do have to realize that you can't expect it to be free all the time. Sure Rockstar gives people a lot of things for free with dlc, but they get their money with all the expensive things in the game ifself. Oh you want to buy this new car we made available? Well if you don't have 2 million Dollars in the game you can always buy the money in the game with real money and that's exactly what a lot of people do. Then there's Overwatch that gives you new characters and maps for free, which is nice and it doesn't cost you a thing. But Blizzard isn't a fool, they know how to persuade people to spend more money on the game. You see loot boxes can be earned by gaining a new level but for some people this goes too slow, so they just spend a lot of money (some people buy more than a hundred loot boxes which will cost you more than 80 Dollars/Euros) on buying them just to get the items they so desperately want. Of course this isn't forced but some people are very vulnerable to these things and will easily spend a small fortune on these things and developers pretty much count on this to happen. What people probably hate the much when dlc is already announced before the game has launched and you have to pay for it. That really gives people the idea that you're being drained for money, because if you can announce before the game has even launched then why don't you just add it into the game itself? Oh right you can earn more money if you sell it separately as dlc.

Dlc shouldn't exist?

I think that dlc definitely has a lot of good things to bring to a game, I can understand that this is difficult to see for people who don't have the money to pay for dlc. That means you're missing out and I can understand how that makes some people mad. But dlc isn't really a bad thing, it can actually bring you a lot of new things to the game and that makes things more fun. If you don't have the money for dlc now then perhaps it's a smart idea to wait and buy the game of the year edition of the game so you get the game with all the dlc, that means you have to wait longer to play it but you have everything for the same price. I don't consider dlc as a bad thing, but sometimes it does feel like developers are just out for more money which sucks. I don't want to reward them for that type of behaviour but sometimes dlc is just so much fun that you really need to have it. It's easy to say that you don't need it, but if you really like a game then you would really like anything that would keep you longer in that game and give you new things to do. For example the Witcher 3 fans love the dlc because it keeps them longer in a game that they love, it also helps that they really like the dlc. If it's good then most people don't mind paying for it, but unfortunately not all the dlc out there is good and sometimes it really feels like you wasted your money on something terrible. But the same can be said about games and I don't think that there are gamers that wish that games didn't exist. I guess you just have to be careful with what you buy and try to get as much information as you can before you buy something.
