The end of games as we know it?
Do you ever think sometimes that games as we know them now might one day disappear? I'd say long after you're gone that seems quite likely, but what if this happens in ten years? Then everything you knew about games and love about games would change. Maybe it will be for the best, but at the same time it could be something bad and something you don't like. What will you do then?
Games will change one day?
When you look at the early days of gaming and compare that with now then you know that a lot has changed. But eventhough the graphics and gameplay itself have improved it's still pretty much the same idea, because you control the character on screen with a controller or with your mouse and keyboard. If I have to believe the VR development then sooner or later we will be able to control characters completely with your own body and do all actions without a controller. This kind of scares me because I like using a controller, hell I would even prefer using a mouse and keyboard over the whole my body is the controller bullshit. But it seems we're heading this way wether you like it or not. Which means that one day you stand inside your house jumping in front of your tv, some people already do that with those ridiculous fitness games, and your neighbours think that you finally lost it. I know that some people say that change is good, but I wonder how good this will be. Because I like things how they are now, I don't see anything positive in VR and all the hype that goes around it seems to ignore an important thing. What kind of long term effect does VR have on you? Is it safe to spend long days in VR? I know that some people only play an hour or two a day on gaming but there are also people who have a minimum of ten hours on one day that they spend on gaming, what kind of effect would that have on them when they play VR games? I know it's to say to play only a little bit on one day but you should realize that some people really have nothing else to do or really enjoy losing themselves in a game. But does that mean that when they lose themselves in a VR game that this might be hazardous for their health?
You can't stop the future?
I probably sound like I'm completely against VR games and in a way that might be true, but I do realize that technology needs to move forward and standing still doesn't help anyone. I'm just worried what VR will do to some gamers. Already you have warnings about epileptic attacks when you play certain games, so I do feel it's right to worry about something that can have a huge impact on you. But you can't stop the future and things will definitely keep improving until you reach a point that you don't know any better. Can you imagine playing Pong on the Atari? Well maybe if you're over thirty but I'd say most kids probably see something from the stone age and I can't say that I blame them. Perhaps it will be the same for VR and other game technologies, people who played games before that will have to adjust while kids that grow up with VR games don't know anything else and will probably prefer that above the games we have now. I just hope we can hold on to the games we have now for as long as we can, there's nothing wrong with improving but I really hope that doesn't mean that the games we know now will be discarded. Otherwise I have a really good reason of becoming a retro gamer!
