Do you want to play games with strangers?
There are people that play games but refuse to play games online if they have no friends that play that game, for some reason they just don't want to play games with people they don't know. Of course you don't have to do that but you will be missing out on a lot of fun, but I guess some people only see the negative parts of playing a game with random people and perhaps they have some unpleasant experiences with that. So it's not that surprising that some people don't want to play with strangers, but not every stranger is a bad guy or girl!
A stranger is a friend you don't know?
I guess an optimist would say that, unfortunately reality isn't always that positive. Sure you can meet some nice people online, but you can also meet a lot of unfriendly people online. It's a bit of a gamble and there's no guarantee what you get, sometimes a great team and sometimes a terrible team. It's rough when you face a team of friends when you're in a random team, but it's not impossible to beat the well oiled team of friends! Individual skill can make the difference and sometimes luck also plays a role. So don't be too easily discouraged in multiplayer, give people a chance and some of them might actually surprise you. Maybe some of them will even be friends with you, you'll never know if you never try!
One bad experience ruins everything?
It's possible, especially if you already had your doubts about playing multiplayer with random people then a negative experience can really keep you away from multiplayer. My first online multiplayer experience in Rainbow Six Siege was bad, I was in a team of team killers and that was frustrating to say the least! But I didn't give up, it took a couple of matches to get into a good team but eventually I had a blast playing the game and met some friendly people with whom I formed a pretty good team. It's the trick to get through the bad matches and find yourself in a good match, you could say it has something to do with luck but I do think that eventually you'll end up in a good team sooner or later. Don't give up and don't let yourself be discouraged by some bad experiences!
It's better to play with friends?
That makes sense, I mean why would you play with strangers when you can play games with your friends? But your friends aren't always online, at least I don't think your friends are online everytime you're online, so don't be afraid to play with some strangers. You might make some new friends, even if that's not the case then at least you can play the game and have a good time (hopefully). It might be scary at first, for some people, but don't be afraid to go online and have fun. I think a lot of people do the exact same thing and hope for the best as well when they play with random people.
