Do you like virtual reality?
These days a lot of people talk about virtual reality, it's supposedly the future of gaming and everyone is excited about it. But is that true? I mean do you really want to play virtual reality games? Because if I have to be honest with you then I can't say I'm excited about it. Sure I wouldn't mind trying it out but I don't feel like playing all my games likes that. Besides what are the effects of long exposure to virtual reality, oh sure it's fine for a couple of hours but what if you play games a lot and spend a lot of hours in virtual reality? I don't think that will be healthy, but at the same time who am I to say that it's not healthy since I'm not an expert on the subject.
Should you be excited about virtual reality?
Well it makes sense if you are, I mean it's something new and it looks cool. So why wouldn't you be excited? Probably because you like games the way they are now. For example can you imagine playing Halo, CoD or Battlefield in virtual reality? It might be an amazing experience but will that affect your performance? Some people are pretty good at first person shooters but in virtual reality it might mean that they have to start over again and learn to be one of the best once more. With RPGs it might be interesting to have virtual reality, conversastions with NPCs are more intense and the actions you make might have a bigger impact on you. But the question is do you really need that? When I play a RPG I don't need virtual reality to get sucked into the game, when I play Dragon Age or Mass Effect I get sucked into the game and there is no room or chair but just the game I'm playing. Maybe not everyone can lose themselves so easily in a game but I think a lot of RPG fans can and don't need virtual reality to feel more in tune with a game or need that to lose themselves in a game. So as much fun as virtual reality might be I still don't see the need for it myself.
Do you think virtual reality will replace modern games one day?
If with modern games you mean the games you play today then it's quite possible, but then again games keep changing and things keep improving. Just compare the NES Super Mario with Halo on the Xbox, compare Goldeneye 64 with Tomb Raider (2013) and Silent Hill with the Evil Within. Things will improve and look better, that doesn't automaticly mean that the games are better but they look better and hopefully also have better gameplay. But if you ask me if I want to trade in my controller for movement in virtual reality then I say no, I like a controller and I don't want to look like an idiot with those ridiculous goggles on. But hey if you like that and want that then that's good for you, I'm just saying that I'm happy with how things are now! So maybe one day games will mostly be virtual reality games, but for now we still have choices and can play games the way we want to play them. I hope it stays that way for a long time!
