Sinful Sunday: Cowards win in multiplayer games?
One person might call it tactics, another person will call it cowardice but it usually comes down to the same thing and that's frustration. People that have succes with a defensive playstyle. What is a defensive playstyle? For example campers, people that defend a control point/domination point or people that hang around others and move slowly on the map. It's not the most exciting way to play but you do get succes with it, perhaps that's the reason why more and more people play like this.
How does being defensive make you a coward?
I'd say that's just an opinion but I would like to add that it's not the type of playstyle that gets you respect or helps you make friends in online multiplayer. Besides is it really fun to play that way? I would be bored out of my mind if I spend most of the match in one area and constantly around other people. But once again that's an opinion, if a defensive playstyle is your thing then go for it! Just don't expect everyone to like that, if you care about such things. Some people dislike other people when they have succes in a game, especially if they get killed a lot by the person that plays with a defensive tactic. So it's easy to then call them a coward, but really it does help if you learn from your mistake and try a different approach than to constantly run straight at the person who is aiming down sight at one point.
So playing agressive gets you more respect?
Of course not! Do you really think people will like you or respect you if you humiliate them by killing them several times in the match in a one vs one confrontation? I don't think you make friends that way and there would only be a small group of people that would want to play against you again if you crush them in a match. Just look at the amount of rage quitters in a match or people that will give you hate for having succes. It doesn't matter what you do in a match, there's always something wrong with you because you can't be better at the game than that person. I guess sometimes you do get lucky, but sometimes people just suck at a game and they can't always accept that.
But defensive tactics do get you more victories?
That depends, it's rare for one person in a team to seize the victory for the entire team with his or her tactic. But if you work well together and use a defensive playstyle then the other team will have a rough time beating your team. Because it's not just a playstyle or skill that wins a match, it's also communication and of course paying attention. If you play a domination match then a defensive playstyle can get you a nice victory, but against an offensive team that is on the full attack and works well together as a team you might still have a rough time. Can your defensive hold against a full out attack of their team? Once again it all depends on several factors, the weapons that are being used and how well do you know the map? But there's also the factor of luck, sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you get screwed. Just remember that when you play online multiplayer that you either win or lose, unless you get one of those awkward draw situations but I usually feel that everyone lost at that point...
