Assassin's Creed Syndicate (first impression)
After playing most of the day some AC Syndicate I got a good taste of what this game has to offer and I still think that there are more things left to discover, but for a first impression I got pretty far. AC Syndicate is a unique experience in the AC series because you control two assassins, not at the same time though, and the assassins aren't exactly the same. Jacob is the brawler while Evie is the prowler. Of course Evie can bash skulls in and Jacob knows how to sneak but they both have their own personalities are prefered ways of handling things, in the end it's still up to you to do it.
Two assassins.
The Frye twins, Jacob and Evie, are pretty cool and the controls are quite good as well. It's not a story about revenge but about rebellion and anarchy, eventhough with Evie you probably keep that to a minimum. It's your job to liberate London from the Templars under the rule of Crawford Starrick and his lieutenants. Then there are also the Blighters, a gang that works for the Templars, that you have to beat and that you'll see in the streets being assholes to everyone (including your characters). With your gang, the Rooks, you try to turn the tide and rally the people to stand up against the Templars and in the end Starrick himself. Jacob wants to take the fast and direct approach while Evie wants to plan and make smart strikes instead of rushing into battle. You can imagine how these two clash but somehow they make it work and I do like the dialogue between the brother and sister. You can easily switch between assassins in the menu, in some missions you have to play as either Jacob or Evie but that's not terrible because both assassins are fun to play with.
Break, make and take!
It's quite interesting to see how easy things break when you travel in a carriage and run over people or crash into other carriages, but also your environment easily breaks even in some situations that is a bit unbelievable but it keeps the fun in the game and also gets you a nice achievement/trophy if you break enough stuff. But you can also make items, wether that's armor or weapons, and that improves your abilities and makes you a bit tougher or gives you more stealth so enemies don't detect you so quickly. If that's not enough then you can also use your environment against enemies, for example drop barrels on enemies or throw a crate of nitro at some enemies. That's quite effective and saves you some ammo. You can also gather materials you need to improve your equipment and also your gang abilities that also benefit you.
Not flawless.
As much as I like AC Syndicate I do have to mention that I encountered some bugs, nothing serious that makes it impossible to play but still they're there. After the second boss fight, a gang leader in London, the camera was stuck in one position and I could change that and it was stuck next to my character so I couldn't see what happened in front of me. Well that was annoying but going back to the title screen and then once again into the game it was fixed. Sometimes there are a few glitches or weird things going on but nothing serious for as far as I could see. At least it's not as bad as AC Unity and this game is also more interesting so I can definitely advice you to check it out if you're looking for a fun game to play. Because AC Syndicate definitely has a lot of fun in store for you!
