Games with a midnight release attract idiots?
I know that's pretty harsh to say but hear me out! This is an opinion from a lot of people, often people that don't understand why some people would stand outside waiting for a game when you can easily download it on your console or computer at midnight or if you want a hard copy you can get it the next day. What difference does it make that you get it several hours later? Indeed, why would anyone do something so silly as waiting in line at a late time of the day for a game that will release the next day? Maybe some people are just weird?
Why do people go so far for a game?
I guess for some people it's not a bad thing, when you're there with friends or you're social and talk with others waiting in line then time will pass a lot faster. But it still leaves you outside in the cold, if you're unlucky, and the comfort of your house is a lot more appealing when you can get the same game at the same time and immediately start downloading it on your computer or console. I guess some people just want a hard copy and I can understand that, but why would go through all that trouble to get it at that time? Well for some people it's a tradition, for others it's just an urge they can't control and then there are people who do that just because they want to. Should there really be a good reason why people would rather stand in line around midnight for a game they could get on a much easier way? Maybe there is a reason but not everyone understands it or wants to understand it.
So you stand in line, then when you finally get it you go back home and play it?
Well first you have to install it and then you would be able to play it. I guess the benefit is that the next day you're ready to play while others still have to install the game, but I don't see that as a good reason to lose sleep over that. I'm patient enough to wait several hours more and then play it later. But when you're a youtuber or streamer on Twitch then I can understand that you want to get the game as early as possible so you can make some interesting videos or a stream as one of the first, I guess you do have a good reason then but with some loyal followers/subscribers you should be ok. I just can't help but see people that go to a midnight release as weird people, I wouldn't call them idiots (that's rude and just because someone does something you wouldn't do doesn't make him or her an idiot), because the benefit is just too small in my opinion. I know that there are people that disagree and would go to a midnight release and they get to play the game early. I'd say good for them, but I won't lose any sleep over that and play the game the next day with just as much fun!
