Microtransactions in Destiny, good/bad idea?

These past couple of weeks I've heard a lot of hate when the microtransactions were mentioned, this went so far that people would threaten to stop playing Destiny or accuse Bungie and/or Activision of being money grabbing whores. But yesterday you could see for yourself, it's just an option in the game that doesn't give you any benefit and it's just for fun. So once again people make a lot of noise for nothing or is this the beginning of the end?

What is the problem?

I think a lot of people see the microtransactions in Destiny as the beginning of the end, mostly because they've seen it before in other games where microtransactions ruined the game. But wether you like it or not the microtransactions in Destiny are just emotes you can buy for your character, I don't think that's terrible and you can even get two for free as each account gets 400 silver (the new pay method that you purchase with real money) for free and you can purchase two standard emotes for that. Of course there are a lot of emotes and if you want them all you'll have to buy more silver with real money, the same counts for the purple emotes, these are 500 silver a piece and the two I saw (weird dancing and slow clap) look pretty cool. If this is all microtransactions have to offer then I don't see the problem, but it's not strange to think that there will be more after this.

Are people dumb to buy emotes with real money?

I really hate it when people call other people dumb just for doing something they wouldn't do, does that make them dumb? Nope, that makes them different and different isn't dumb nor is that a bad thing! If someone wants to spend real money on buying emotes then I'd say good for him or her, but I doubt that I would do the same thing. Some of the emotes look cool but I don't know if I want to buy that with real money, besides you can carry only one new emote and once you buy three you're already full unless you're going to swap the emotes from time to time. But it's still a nice addition to the game, eventhough the haters will of course hate and most likely accepted their free emotes and spread more hate. Some people just suck, sigh...

Will there be more microtransactions in Destiny?

Well I take it that there will be more emotes then the ones I saw yesterday but if you mean that there will be other items for sale remains to be seen. I think that these emotes are a test, to see if there is a market for items that you have to buy with real money. If that's a succes then it wouldn't surprise me if you're going to see shaders, sparrows and ships for sale as well. These are all items in the game that have no real influence on your character, sure it's part of your style but it doesn't buff your armor or weapons and doesn't give you an advantage in PvE or PvP. Unless someone is blinded by your new shader, but to be serious here I doubt that this will happen soon. Maybe next year or even in Destiny 2. Let's just first enjoy the new emotes and have fun showing off your new tricks in the Iron Banner!
