Honour in online multiplayer is a myth?

If you see someone in multiplayer with his or her back turned towards you do you take the shot? When someone is afk do you shoot that person? Do you shoot someone who has no more ammo or do you try to fight it out with melee attacks to give the other a fair chance to win? Do you ignore cheap tricks and overpowered weapons in multiplayer? If you do then that would make you a very honourable man or woman, but at the same time I doubt that anyone would do all that. Because the honourable player is usually the dead player!

There is no honour in online multiplayer?

If you face random players then I wouldn't expect to find that, because a lot of people want to win (because of the rewards you get, for example achievements/trophies or experience) and even if you got nothing as a reward then I'm still pretty certain that most people would want to win the match anyway. The question is how far would someone go to win, would you play dirty or would you try to play fair? For some people it's easy, they don't care what others think of them and apparently they also don't care about honour or anything like that because they'll do whatever it takes to win. Which can even lead to some people cheating, which is of course very dishonourable. I'm not saying that it's impossible to find honourable people in multiplayer, I just wouldn't hold my breath for something like that. Most people I face in multiplayer want to win and some of them aren't afraid to use cheap tricks or even use cheats. I guess for some people it's just all about winning.

Is it important to be honourable in a game?

If you're on a roleplaying server in some (mmo)rpg then it makes sense that you want to play honourable if you play as the noble paladin or the virtuous knight. But I wouldn't expect people to be so civil in a random shooter or race game. I don't think that's really the place for that as well. But I do think it's important that you play fair, which means no cheats and keep the cheap tricks (camping, power weapons and use of vehicles) to a minimum. Of course you can be that guy or girl that does do that the entire match, just don't expect people to like you or want to play a game with you again. So it's not important to be honourable in a game, just try to be nice and play fair. It's about having fun playing a game with others, not being the biggest douchebag in the game and annoy others.
