Microtransactions, do we really need them?
To put it simple, no we don't need them! But why are they in more and more games? Probably because as long as people pay they stay. Ok that sounds lame but that's pretty much how it goes, because having dlc isn't enough for some people and if developers can make an extra buck with microtransactions then you can bet your ass on it that they'll be included in a game.
Microtransactions add something positive to a game?
They can, at least if it's something you don't really need and is fun to have. For example buying different colours for your armor or buying an animated expression for your character, that's not something you need but can make your character more interesting and more fun to play with in the game. What sucks if microtransactions give people something that others had to work hard for, for example rare weapons or armor that people can buy without having to spend hours on a mission/quest to get them. It's what people call pay to win.
Pay to win is evil?
Maybe evil isn't the right word to describe it, but it's definitely unfair. Just imagine you spending hours, days, weeks or maybe even months on trying to get something and then here come the microtransactions that give it away for a price just like that. Sure it's nice that everyone can get it but it's unfair to those that worked hard to get them. Which is why I prefer they leave these type of microtransactions out of a game.
Microtransactions don't belong in a game?
This is what a lot of people say and I think that they have a point, they don't really belong in a game because it feels like developers are trying to squeeze more money out of their customers while they could've add this in the game or with dlc instead of you having to pay for that separately. Just remember that some people already hate dlc, so microtransactions are something that make some people very angry. But I would like to add that not every game with microtransactions sucks, the idea is often that they add something cosmetic or some extra social interacting options to the game and not really get awesome weapons or armor you can't get any other way. Unfortunately there could be games out there that do pull that stunt where you can only get certain weapons and/or armor through microtransactions but I doubt these games are going to be that popular or if people will all decide to buy that. You don't need microtransactions to beat a game and hopefully it stays that way!
