Looking back at.....Overlord!

When I first saw the game Overlord I was very interested, mostly thanks to my Fable addiction and this game looks a bit like Fable. Ok there's at least one big difference, in Overlord you play as the villain and you can only be the villain. Is that boring? Hell no! It's a lot of fun and your minions (the small creatures that serve you) make this game unforgettable!

Overlord and minions.

What is an overlord without minions, probably still a bad guy but in this game he's probably not that interesting. Especially when your overlord doesn't really speak but kind of grunts or roars, but that's ok because the minions steal the show in this game. The silly voices and things they do really make you laugh and it's a lot of fun to control them. I would like to add that their survival instincts are probably as good as a group of lemmings but at least you have some direct control over them instead of trying to guide them. You have several types of minions: brown minions are warriors, blue minions are healers and swimmers, green minions are assassins and are immune to poison and red minions use fire attacks and they're immune against fire. This helps you solve several puzzles in the game and also help you beat enemies, this can also lead to some interesting strategies. For example putting your brown minions up front with the red minions behind them for support, then use the green minions to flank the enemy and the blue minions to heal them when needed. That's just one tactic and you can try out some different tactics if you want.

Romance?

What is an overlord without a mistress? A lonely overlord? Well to be honest I doubt he's lonely with all those minions around but having a woman in your castle makes things a bit more interesting. For example depending on who you choose as a mistress, you can choose between two women (both evil in their own way), she will decorate the castle in her own style and if you become close with her you can rock the tower (I think that's what the achievement says) together! Once again this reminds me a bit of Fable, silly humour and yet still quite a lot of fun to play!

Fun!

Overlord is a fun game, perhaps a bit short but definitely a lot of fun to play! The minions are hilarious but also the former heroes you fight are quite silly. For example a halfling that's super fat and not so small anymore, a paladin that's addicted to sex and an elf that is extremely lazy. The control of your minions is also pretty cool, you can directly control them and with swarm tactics (a lot of minions diving on an enemy) you can take down even the biggest targets. But you do need to be careful which minions you use, for example don't lead a charge with the blue or red minions or they'll be slaughtered! You're also pretty weak yourself, for example leading a charge will most likely get you killed, so just control your minions and help with killing some enemies when needed. This game isn't very difficult and is clearly made to be fun, so if you haven't checked this game out then I can definitely recommend it to you!
