Movie Monday: Serenity

Did you watch the show Firefly? It's a fun science fiction show that was already cancelled in the first season. Which of course sucks, but thankfully several years later there was a movie that pretty much gave the fans more of Firefly. Even if you've never seen the show Firefly then the movie is still pretty good, but it does help if you watch the show first. It makes a bit more sense that way.

The movie we deserved?

 I don't know if we deserved the movie but I'm glad that the movie is there, because I watched the show Firefly and I was so disappointed when the show was cancelled. So this movie gave me at least something extra. It actually shows you where the creator, Josh Whedon, was going with the show but went a bit fast forward with the story in the movie. But it never bothers me and actually gives you a fun and interesting story with some really cool moments. All the actors from the show are there so it really feels good to watch the movie after seeing the show. Eventhough this was the end for Firefly it did give the fans a decent end and not a sudden termination. But who knows, maybe Firefly will return one day. You never know...

They're like Guardians of the Galaxy?

 Well...not exactly but I can see how some people make this connection. Yes they're a bunch of outcasts on a ship together and often up to no good, but they're actually all human and instead of saving the the galaxy they're mostly in it to grab some loot and stay out of the hands of the law. The crew of the Serenity actually value their freedom a lot, so they stay the rebels and go against the law and order of the government. Except in a big space ship and with some futuristic blasters. What definitely is something the crew of the Serenity has in common with the Guardians of the Galaxy is the amount of humour. The movie isn't super serious, ok there are serious moments but the main focus remains humour, and it's meant to entertain you with some funny moments and dialogue.

Should you watch this movie?

 If you're a browncoat, this is how the fans of Firefly often call themselves, then you most likely already have seen the movie but in case you haven't then I can definitely recommend it. It's a funny science fiction action movie. Is that even a genre? Anyway it really is a fun movie and worth checking out! I could tell you all about the movie and the characters but I think that if you've never heard of the movie or the show Firefly then it's a lot more fun to discover that yourself. So feel free to check it out and no need to thank me, thank Josh Whedon for making awesome shows (for example Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel) and movies (Avengers).

Button bashing

It seems that more and more games want you to smash on the buttons of the controller, which seems like fun but knowing that this weak piece of plastic can´t handle much it´s not the smartest way to handle your controller. In the good old arcade days I could smash on buttons, ok nothing too crazy but at least those machines had a lot more resilience than these weak controllers we have now. You have to pay a small fortune for one of them and they fall apart with the slightest bit of force you use. After smashing a couple of controllers out of frustration I learned to be careful with them, but when games force you to be an agressive button basher it doesn´t really help. Button bashing is nothing new but I do seem to see it in more and more games, even games that could easily do without this abusive way of treating your controller. Movie Monday: Mr & Mrs Smith

There are movie that might not look good at first, when you hear about it, but once you see the movie then you know that it's a fantastic movie. What really made Mr & Mrs Smith so good was the acting of the two main stars in the movie, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. They had so much fun making this movie that it's an absolute joy to watch the movie. Which is good news for people that are looking for a fun movie to watch! Married to a spy? The story of Mr & Mrs Smith is pretty simple, a man is a spy and marries to a woman not knowing that she's a spy too. Apparently both of them are unaware of eachothers activities until their paths cross in their spy life, which leads to a lot of fighting and explosions. It's really not the action that makes this movie so much fun to watch but it's the humour. Sinful Sunday: Why are you so serious?

When I play a game I don't want to be serious, I just want to have fun and relax. Honestly real life is serious enough and I don't need that in games. Who cares who wins or who loses, just have fun and that already makes it great! Unfortunately there are gamers that take certain games way too serious, so serious that they literally forget to have fun which is quite frustrating to deal with. These kind of players are so serious that they probably left the fun behind when they started the game. Sigh... Serious gamers are lame gamers? There is nothing wrong about being serious, but I think there is a time and a place for everything.
