Destiny 2 PvP: the good, the bad and the ugly

I'll be honest with you, I'm not really into PvP but it's nice to sometimes unwind a bit in the crucible. It's the spot for some player against player action and you can test your skills and also new weapons against other guardians. This was something I enjoyed in Destiny, not always but definitely worth checking out every now and then. But now in Destiny 2 things are a bit different and I can't say I'm a big fan of that.

Clan vs solo queue players?

Be honest, how many times when you joined solo queue did the game put you up against a clan of three or four? This wouldn't be so bad if you would be there with your clan or at least have a team of people that communicate and work together. Unfortunately none of that seems to be present as of this day in the crucible. This makes solo queue in PvP an absolute nightmare for some people and just not fun to play. It's not that you can't beat a clan of four, but if your team doesn't communicate nor wants to work together then it will be difficult and the odds are definitely against you! So far every match I played in competitive has put me up against a clan of three or four and half of the time I find myself in a random team (as in nobody knows eachother and nobody works together or communicates). Which then leaves the other half of the matches where I join a three man clan and they also don't communicate with me or want to work together with me. This is incredibly frustrating and it doesn't take long for people to rage quit or just throw the game. You'd think that things would be better in quickplay and it is a bit better but you still have a pretty big chance to have a three or four man clan on the opposite team while you're in a random team. I've had evenings where I went from one such match to the other in a row! I mean there is literally no system in the game that keeps this from happening. At this point it really doesn't pay off to be on your own, so if you don't bring your friends or clan then there is almost no point in playing PvP at this moment! Maybe that's the intention of Bungie, forcing people to team up and find clans to join. Is it really so bad to be the lone wolf in a game? You could be a lone wolf in Destiny PvP so why is this being punished in Destiny 2? It's really not fun and really unpleasant to play PvP as a solo queue player in Destiny 2, I wouldn't recommend it and the moment you get your powerful gear reward from the call to arms milestone I would advice you to get back to PvE because PvP is just not for the solo queue players.

Let people choose what they want to play?

Another issue a lot of people have is how you have only two modes to pick from in Destiny 2 PvP, quickplay and competitive. Quickplay offers you clash (team deathmatch), control (domination) and capturing enemy player crests when you kill them (like getting dogtags in CoD). Competitive gives you survival (each team has a certain amount of lives and the first team to run out of lives loses) and a more strategic game mode where one team has to set a bomb in the base of the other team. You only have one life each round and it can take up a lot of rounds to win (6 rounds to win). Not only does it suck that you can't pick your own game mode, if you're unlucky you get the same game mode five or six times in a row, but also that some of the competitive game modes take a long time to win. I played a competitive match and a team mates rage quitted, which pretty much left the rest of the team screwed because we already faced a four man clan and now with a player less we had a really hard time and yet it still took six minutes for us to lose because of all the rounds that you need to play. Honestly the mercy rule could be applied if you lose three rounds in a row and you have at less players on your team. But above everything I want to be able to pick what I want to play, for example if I want to play clash then let me play clash and stop putting me in control matches where your team mates are completely ignoring the objective and I hear the siren go off every twenty seconds because nobody on my team except me is capturing points. That's really frustrating and absolutely no fun at all!

What needs to change?

Something I want to see in PvP is give players the option to pick their game mode, so people can play what they want instead of the random shuffle that you have now. Also make it so that solo queue players get opponents that are also in solo queue and put clan teams up against other clan teams. That is a lot more fair and I think it will improve PvP a lot when you don't get put in matches that are pretty much decided in the first two minutes. It would also help if rage quitters get punished for rage quitting, it sucks so much when you're in a team with rage quitters and have to face the other team with the players that are left. I've played against a team where everyone left except one guy, he was totally screwed and yet he stayed in the match. This guy should deserve a reward for that because he showed some backbone while the rest of his team were behaving like cowards and scumbags. I know that certain matches suck but just sit it out and hope that things will be better next match. Bungie already made it easier to complete the call to arms milestone, so it shouldn't take as long as it did before. Which is good because spending more than an hour on that is really not fun when you constantly face clans with a solo queue team. Some people also hate the four vs four matches, I personally don't mind them that much but adding more type of matches with six vs six or maybe even twelve against twelve would be interesting and give people something else to do. My point is give people something to choose, then they can at least decide what they want to do instead of being put in a game mode that isn't fun for them to play.
