Bot almighty!
Have you ever played a game and noticed how some bots are just ridiculous? I think we all know the bots that never seem to miss a shot, bots that always seem to instantly spawn behind you or bots that always seem to know where you are. Against such brutality a lot of players meet their end, in the game of course, and it causes a lot of frustration. But are bots truly overpowered or are some people just bad at certain games?
Good bot is useless, evil bot isn't?
Something that really annoys me is that whenever you have a bot on your side they're nine out of ten times absolutely useless. They can't get a kill, they can't keep up with your speed and often get themselves killed. But enemy bots aren't that stupid, they're more effective killers than some players out there and will fuck your day if you're not careful! A game where bots are really bad on your side is Pay Day 2, your AI controlled team mates are one of the dumbest bots out there and often completely useless. For example they stand right next to you but don't pick you up because they got hit by a stray bullet and take a minute to figure out where that came from. Then you also have the troll bot that seems to act a lot like a troll because the bot starts picking you back up and then when you're almost up somehow the bot stop and starts over. Yeah great fun... Meanwhile the enemy bots will have unlimited spawns, always seem to know where you are and will get their hits on you the moment you peek around a corner. In GTA V it's extremely annoying how the cops in the game always know where you are and then instantly know if you drive around in a stolen car. Then the whole police force chases you and somehow they never seem to run out of cops to throw at you. If you have a mission where you have to protect someone then that bot is usually as dumb as it can be, take the long route to get in a vehicle and almost seems to sabotage the mission by making it a lot harder than it has to be. Maybe it's all part of the challenge but it gets so frustrating when you have to deal with that every day. You know that the developers can make better bots but somehow they're always on the enemy team. I guess you can't have useful friendly bots because why would you need other people if bots are just as a good or even better? Which makes me believe that friendly bots are made deliberately bad or at least worse than normal just so you would team up with other people or to make missions a bit more difficult.
Why are some bots so overpowered?
My guess is that the developers want to make it more of a challenge, so if you would breeze through the game then that wouldn't be that much fun. So bots are often more difficult to beat when they're on the enemy team. Eventhough that's not always a guarantee because in multiplayer games like CoD and Overwatch the bots, even on the highest difficulty, aren't that difficult to beat. But GTA V cops are so overpowered to probably keep players from doing dumb things in real life. I mean if it was so easy to be a criminal and get away with doing bad things it might inspire people to do bad things in real life. At least that's my guess behind the ridiculous GTA V cops. It can't be that crime should be that easy or rewarding. At the same time you can just buy millions and buy all the expensive stuff anyway. I guess capitalism can't be stopped! Not even by the almighty bot! In For Honor there are also some bots that are really tough, for example a bot playing as the conquerer is a very tough opponent that will most likely kill most new players or low skill players. But if you face a bot playing as a warden then it becomes a much easier fight. These are good practice matches and actually prepare you for some of the onslaught in multiplayer. So facing strong bots can be a good thing! But it sucks when you get stuck, when the bots are just too much and you can't seem to beat them. I think there are a lot of moments in Ninja Gaiden or Dark Souls that make people want to throw their controller or mouse and keyboard out of the window but once you do beat those games it does feel pretty sweet. There is nothing wrong with a bit of a challenge but it sucks when a game is so difficult that it's no longer fun to play. I guess we all have our own type of game and some people just prefer games that aren't much of a challenge while others are looking for this challenge. But so far a team of skilled people should always be able to beat a team of bots. If that ever changes then it's probably the end of times and the robot overlords are taking over. Oh well at least we had a good time, right?
