Destiny 2 (first impression)
To be totally honest I wasn't even certain if I wanted to buy Destiny 2, not that I thought it would be a bad game but more because of my experience with Destiny. I was worried that it would be another game where you grind and come to the conclusion that you can only get the best gear if you team up with other people. Eventhough that is still true in Destiny 2 you have now better ways of teaming up with others and pretty much let the game do that for you instead of you trying to find like minded people who want to team up with you for a strike or raid. So is Destiny 2 and improvement? Well from what I've seen so far it is.
Destiny 2 is better than Destiny?
Let me immediately say that I haven't finished the story so I can't really say that it's better, but so far I'm enjoying the story and the worlds I have visited look really good! Things I really like about Destiny 2 is how certain things work, for example you have a map now so you can track missions and other activities a lot better. This can save you a lot of time and make it easier to go from one point to the other. Public events also show up on the map, which is perfect when you want to team up with some other people to take down a tough boss or beat another type of event. This is also a good way to get better gear and level up, so it's not a bad idea to stick around for that! You also see more cutscenes that actually tell you a story, not just with the guardians but also with the new threat the red legion under leadership of Ghaul. When you talk to certain NPCs they have a little description next to them so you know who this person is and learn a bit about them. This is a good way for people who are interested to learn more and people who don't care to ignore that. The guardian powers have also gotten a boost, from what I've seen with the Titan striker you have multiple charges with your smash so you're no longer a one trick performer! The hunter and the warlock have also gotten boosts for their subclasses. From my experience so far the game looks better than the first one, so I'm definitely hopeful and I have a positive feeling about this game.
Not everything is better?
So one of the first things that I didn't like is the fact that you don't get a sparrow until the end of your story in the campaign, you could get lucky with a loot drop but most people will have to wait till the end of the campaign to get their sparrow which means you have to do a lot of walking. This isn't a disaster but it does suck, especially when you want to rush to a public event and you literally can't get their fast enough. Another thing I don't like is how you earn your subclasses for your guardians. I got my striker class in a random loot drop. Then I had to charge it with kills during public events. Not a bad thing to do but just the fact that this subclass dropped as a random drop makes me uncomfortable. That means in theory you could miss it or get it much later. It would be nice that you would get it standard at a certain level instead of hoping to get it from a loot drop at a certain level. This also means you walk around almost half the game as a certain subclass. For me as a Titan I played a big portion, 12 levels as a sentinel. This wasn't bad, especially since the sentinel got a nice upgrade with shield powers, but I would've like to have gotten acces to my striker faster so I could've switched more and picked my own favourite. I also wished that public events would adjust to the amount of people that would participate in them. So if it's just me or me with another guy I don't want to face the full fury of the Hive! That makes a public event a lot harder and you just have to hope that other people will join but unfortunately that doesn't happen all the time. It's also nice that when you're there with six guardians that it becomes a bit tougher because at that point you're just destroying the enemies, which is nice but at the same time a bit lame as it is no challenge at all.
Multiplayer, bigger and better?
Actually it's not bigger, you're now in teams of four instead of six. Which makes the battle a bit more intense and a more one on one experience in some situations. There are also new game modes, I forgot the name of the one I played but it involves one team defending and the other attacking and the team that attacks must plant a bomb in the base of the defending team while the defending team tries to stop them. You also have team deathmatch and control so you don't have to worry about that. I would advice you to first unlock some better weapons and skills because going in as a noob can easily mean defeat for you.
Should you buy Destiny 2?
That's up to you, but I can definitely recommend the game. I'm having a lot of fun playing it and Destiny 2 does feel new and fresh. Which is a great feeling if you spend a long time in Destiny just like me. I like how you use the characters from Destiny but you lose all progress with them. Somehow my Titan also has black lips which is weird but that just means I'll probably wear my helmet in the public areas. The game is a joy to play and offers you a lot to do and a lot to discover, I'm absolutely having a lot of fun playing it and I hope that it lasts for a long time. I have to admit that I'm a bit worried though, I mean Destiny was also fun from the beginning but things can easily take an ugly turn if you play a game long enough. Destiny 2 is a game you can invest in and I don't think you'll regret investing in it. The world seems more alive and characters actually have backgrounds, so it now feels like you're actually a part of the world. The only problem I have with my character, except from the black lips, is that he never speaks and lets his ghost do all the talking for him. I think that's a missed opportunity but maybe it's just me. So far my complaints about this game are minor and definitely not ruining the experience for me. Destiny 2 is definitely a game you want to check out of you like Destiny or if you want a new game that can keep you busy for quite some time.
