Gamer guys and gamer gals, there is no difference?
I think it's safe to say that we're all gamers, no matter if you're male or female. Ok some people might hate playing games but I think we all had a time in our life that we enjoyed playing games. If not then that person is truly an exception! But if we're all gamers then why do we have gamer guys and gamer gals? Well some people like to put things into groups, I guess that makes sense but it annoys the crap out of other people. Does it truly matter if someone is male or female? Nope! But there are some differences though...
Gamer guys have it easier?
A lot of times I hear stories from women that play games and that have to deal with a lot of crap from other players. Apparently guys don't have this that much. At least I can't remember people specifically picking on me for being a guy. I've heard stories from female gamers that get a lot of crap from guys when they find out that the person that is kicking their butt in a game is a girl. This of course sucks and shouldn't be happening, but unfortunately you can't really do much about it as a player. But you can report these type of people and help keep the gaming community fun and without that type of nonsense. I guess guys usually don't have these kind of issues, but what is an issue for some guys is finding other people to play with. Apparently as a guy it can be hard to find friends or just people to play games with online. I see often a post from a guy online that is looking for people to play games with in a game, but then hardly anyone responds. On the same website a girl makes the exact same post and suddenly there are like dozens of people that respond. I don't know about you but this seems really lame to me, because why wouldn't the guy that made the post earlier get more responses? I mean he was polite and was just looking for some fun people to play games with. I doubt that every female gamer is always happy with this much attention but it wouldn't surprise me that some girls are happy with all the attention they get. Which might also explain why some female gamers have profile pictures that almost scream that they want attention. Is that wrong? No, no it's not. But it does make things weird in the gaming community for me. I honestly don't care about the looks of someone, I don't play games to meet attractive people online, I play games for fun and hopefully have fun playing games with other people. I think as a guy you do blend in a bit easier, a lady this or miss that will often stick out in certain teams when you play multiplayer. I don't know if that's really a good thing or a bad thing, I guess you would have to ask a female gamer that.
Gamer gals have it harder?
Some people have it harder, but I don't think that this is really tied to one gender. I do believe that women can have it harder online in certain communities. Especially female gamers that are on their own. If you join the solo queue then it can be a nightmare for both male and female gamers. But it wouldn't surprise me if female gamers go through even more crap than male gamers. Which is probably why some female gamers don't use a mic or hide behind a male gamertag. Considering how some gamers can be I don't blame them. It's also stupid how some people don't take certain female gamers seriously when they prefer to play mobile games or handheld games. As if that makes you less of a gamer. I've heard how some guys talk shit to a girl just because she plays Battlefield 1. Is it so wrong for a girl to play that game? The funny thing is that she got the highest score and made the douchebags shut up with that because they got combined not even half her score. So maybe it is harder for some girls but it probably makes them stronger as well. Eventhough some might prefer to avoid than face this type of crap from other gamers. But it's ridiculous that they would have to prove themselves, I mean seriously? Just because she's a girl she would have to prove that she belongs in a game? That's probably one of the dumbest things I've heard! I doubt that female gamers even want special attention, they probably just want to have as much fun as you and me playing a game. I don't think there is anything wrong with that!
There are no gamer guys or gals, just gamers?
I think it's safe to say that, because we're all gamers and I think we all just want to have fun playing a game. Isn't that what makes us gamers? So what if someone is a male or female, does that really matter? Not to me, I honestly don't care if someone is a male or female. I just want to have fun playing a game. Unfortunately there are a lot of people that clearly see a difference and will treat one different than the other. I played on my girlfriend's account this week, helping her get an achievement in Destiny 2, and I noticed how many clan invites I got on her profile when I was walking around in the tower. When I play on my account I get zero clan invites while I did nothing special with the other account I seem to get a lot more invites when player on her account. So unfortunately people make a difference, which is dumb and it will probably never go away. But hopefully one day it doesn't matter anymore if you're a gamer guy or a gamer gal. We're all gamers and should all be called gamers, one isn't better than the other and we all deserve as much respect as the other. In a perfect world this would be reality, unfortunately this world is far from perfect. But that doesn't mean we can't make it a little bit better. So just have fun playing games with other people, we're all gamers and we all just want to have fun!
