Movie Monday: John Carter

I know that a lot of people don't like this movie, I've even heard people say that they hate the movie. But is the movie really that bad? Well that's a matter of opinion. I actually like the movie, ok I know the movie isn't amazing but it's still fun to watch. Certain parts are a bit weird but the movie is never really that bad as some people claim it to be. I never fell asleep while watching this movie and there is enough going on in the movie to keep you interested. So in my opinion John Carter isn't a bad movie, but that's my opinion and not a fact.

Wake up on Mars?

 Imagine this, you got into trouble on Earth and then touch this weird device and suddenly wake up on Mars. That absolutely makes no sense but that's exactly what happens to John Carter in the movie with the same name. Things only get weirder from that point but that's ok, weird doesn't have to mean bad but I can see how some people don't like that in a movie. John meets other people and also weird creatures. United they form a team to eventually save the planet. So in a way a pretty standard hero story but with a science fiction twist to it. Maybe not something for everyone but I bet there are other people who like this movie. Even if not many of them would admit that...

The story is forgettable?

 If you just want to watch the movie for the action then you can do that, but you'll be bored half the movie because there is actually quite a lot of talking going on in the movie. So if you don't invest in the story you'll end up getting bored pretty fast. In my opinion the story is fine, not amazing but definitely not bad. I mean the classic hero saves the princess story is pretty solid to me and put some science fiction in that story and I'm definitely interested. I know it's easy to hate on the movie but honestly it's not terrible. I do wish they would dig a bit deeper with the main character, John Carter, because only in a small flashback do you realize why John turned out the way he did. It makes him less interesting and I bet some people probably didn't even like him. Which makes it hard to watch the movie.

Should you watch this movie?

 You can always rent the movie if you're curious, but I can see how some people would probably prefer to listen to what the majority has to say about a movie than just one guy and that's fine. You don't have to take my word for it, but honestly John Carter isn't a bad movie. Besides it's been several years since the movie was released on dvd so it shouldn't be that expensive to buy it. If you like action, adventure, science fiction and a bit of romance then John Carter might be the movie for you. Feel free to check it out!

Button bashing

It seems that more and more games want you to smash on the buttons of the controller, which seems like fun but knowing that this weak piece of plastic can´t handle much it´s not the smartest way to handle your controller. In the good old arcade days I could smash on buttons, ok nothing too crazy but at least those machines had a lot more resilience than these weak controllers we have now. You have to pay a small fortune for one of them and they fall apart with the slightest bit of force you use. After smashing a couple of controllers out of frustration I learned to be careful with them, but when games force you to be an agressive button basher it doesn´t really help. Button bashing is nothing new but I do seem to see it in more and more games, even games that could easily do without this abusive way of treating your controller. Movie Monday: Mr & Mrs Smith

There are movie that might not look good at first, when you hear about it, but once you see the movie then you know that it's a fantastic movie. What really made Mr & Mrs Smith so good was the acting of the two main stars in the movie, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. They had so much fun making this movie that it's an absolute joy to watch the movie. Which is good news for people that are looking for a fun movie to watch! Married to a spy? The story of Mr & Mrs Smith is pretty simple, a man is a spy and marries to a woman not knowing that she's a spy too. Apparently both of them are unaware of eachothers activities until their paths cross in their spy life, which leads to a lot of fighting and explosions. It's really not the action that makes this movie so much fun to watch but it's the humour. Sinful Sunday: Why are you so serious?

When I play a game I don't want to be serious, I just want to have fun and relax. Honestly real life is serious enough and I don't need that in games. Who cares who wins or who loses, just have fun and that already makes it great! Unfortunately there are gamers that take certain games way too serious, so serious that they literally forget to have fun which is quite frustrating to deal with. These kind of players are so serious that they probably left the fun behind when they started the game. Sigh... Serious gamers are lame gamers?
