Xbox One prepaid card disaster, one bad experience ruins everything?

Ok it's time for a little story, unfortunately based on true events. So yesterday I bought a new 12 months gold subscription for my Xbox One, no problem there so far. I enter the code and it is accepted, at least I get the message that the code stands for 12 months gold and it I get the option to accept. I accept and then after 30 seconds of waiting I get the message that the code was already used. WTF?!!!

How can Xboxlive first accept the code and then say it's been used when you have to confirm?

That's really weird and I honestly don't know what's going on. I tried multiple times entering the code, I thought maybe something went wrong, but now the code isn't accepted anymore. My profile says I still have a silver account and it also says in my account data that my gold membership ended on the 4th of August. I contacted the online store where I bought the prepaid card and they checked the code and they also contacted Microsoft, but of course that takes forever. Apparently it's not easy to get in touch with someone at Microsoft when you have these type of questions. But now comes the weird part. I got a mail from Microsoft that my gold membership was active again for 12 months. So everything is good now? Well not really. You see if I check on Xboxlive, on my console, my gold membership it says that it ended on the 4th of August 2017 but when I check on my PC and log in with my account it says that my gold subscription will end on the 4th of August 2018. I went online with my console and apparently I can play online with other people and also have the benefits of a gold member, but it still says on my profile on my console that I'm a silver member and it shows in the gold benefits page that my gold membership ended on the 4th of August 2017. But when I got to account management on my console it says that my gold membership will end on the 4th of August 2018. Yes that's just as confusing as it sounds.

Did you contact anyone for help?

Of course! First I contacted the store where I bought the prepaid card, I told them what happened and they contacted Microsoft and also checked the code if something was wrong with it. But looking how the code was accepted at first it gives me the impression that the fault is with Microsoft or should I say Xboxlive making a mess of things. I tried to look for help on the Xbox website but here Microsoft would rather have you check multiple pages of text and find your own answer than to actually have someone talk to you and tell you what's going on. Maybe some people like that but I don't like it. I would like that someone could tell me what went wrong, how this could happen and if I have my gold membership. I mean I paid 60 Euros for it so I better have it because otherwise I got screwed over by bullshit!

What do you do now?

What can I do? I just hope it works, that I keep my 12 months gold membership, I paid for that, and that this confusing crap goes away. I must admit that this is the first time I've had these type of issues with prepaid cards, I've heard stories but it's only when it happens to you that you understand the amount of confusion and frustration you have to go through. As long as everything works I can't complain too much though. I mean I got a gold membership eventhough it doesn't really show it at this moment. It's weird but as I said as long as everything works I guess I'll just have to accept things as they are. This does raise questions about prepaid cards, because now you can see that these things aren't very reliable and that apparently things can turn badly for you just like that. It doesn't mean I'll stop using prepaid cards, they're easy to use and I'm more comfortable with prepaid cards instead of credit cards. I really wish Microsoft would keep these type of unfortunate things from happening but I guess you can't completely prevent these things. If this happens to you then I wish you luck because you might just need it. I really miss the days that gaming was pure relaxation and had nothing to do with stress or frustration.
