Fortnite: Survive the storm dlc
For all you fort builders there is good news! The survive the storm dlc is now live for all Fortnite players and it gives you acces to a new survival mode, mutated storms (which gives you more resources for evolving characters and items) and a lot of new characters and items. So for all the fans and even people who are new to the game there is a lot to do!
Survival mode?
These new storm missions are survival missions where you have to survive for 3, 7 or 14 days. Don't worry if you start with only 3 days, after you completed 3 days you can vote for 7 and after that 14 days or vote to leave now. The idea of survival mode is protecting generators, during the day you build defenses, traps and gather resources while at night you have to defend these generators against monster attacks. At first it's not that difficult but the further you get into the survival, as in more in game days in the match, the harder it becomes to protect all the generators. After each night you either have to defend another generator or you have to upgrade a generator. With only one or two generators it's easy to defend that with a full team, I even managed to do that with two other people. But further in when you have to protect several generators it can get ugly and things can go wrong really fast if you don't have good defenses or just not enough people to cover every angle. It is a new and exciting mode but it takes quite some time. The 3 days mode isn't that long and even the 7 days is acceptable up to a point, but with the 14 days survival mode you can spend more than 4 hours on one mission. That's a lot! If someone leaves then it will only become harder and it's possible that all your hard work will be for nothing. It requires some dedication and serious teamwork to beat these type of missions!
New stuff?
You have now storm loot llamas, which are llamas that give you at least one new survive the storm item and contains at least seven items. I haven't gotten new characters with this but I did earn two new epic hydraulic weapons, a pistol and a rocket launcher, which are both pretty cool. The heroes are also interesting but I have to admit that only the soldier looks useful to me right now. The constructor isn't the best type, I mean she's the controller Hype but without her decoy ability which is really powerful and a big loss for this legendary version of her. The ninja has the crescent kick ability which doesn't work properly, it doesn't stun enemies as it should, so this ninja isn't my favourite type of ninja and the outlander hero looks like the male version, lookin at his abilities, of the trail blaster. So in my opinion the heroes are a bit underwhelming. The weapons are pretty cool and you also get a female version of the gunslinger defender and a male version of the rifleman. You earn tickets by completing survival missions, complete mutated storms (you can get them as a mission reward), you get storm tickets by opening the standard loot llama and if you complete certain limited quests (these are new and only available during the event). With these storm tickets you can buy storm loot llamas and they contain a lot of these new items and character, but some of these new items and characters you can also unlock by completing certain limited quests.
Mutated storms?
A mutated storm is a standard mission but with some modifiers active. So enemies become stronger and the heroes also get a bonus. Some modifiers make enemies explode, others give health back to other enemies when they die and there are enemies that can slow you down when they hit you. These mutated storms give you some cool rewards and help you get those pure drop of rain, lightning in a bottle and other rare items more frequently. Not only is that useful but also saves you some grinding. I think you can only get ten rewards on one day, after that you can't earn more until the timer is reset the next day. This sucks but at least you can earn some each day, which should help you with evolving your characters and other items.
Is it worth checking out this dlc?
I think it is, even if you were a disappointed with the game before there are several improvements that should help you level up a bit faster and reach higher power levels. For example you earn more survivor experience and it cost less pure drop of rain to evolve a standard survivor. You also get bonus survivor experience for every time you earned survivor experience in the past. I got almost 200.000 experience! So that helped greatly with leveling up my survivors! You also get a weapon and a people lama, so for some nice bonus loot and hopefully something good. The game still has issues and I won't pretend that this isn't still there, but the game has improved and hopefully it keeps improving. I think it's worth checking out the game if you really enjoyed it, give the game another chance and maybe this new dlc will convince you to play it some more. Also keep in mind that the survive the storm dlc is a limited time event, I think it will only be active for a month so you might want to keep that in mind. So if you want some of the loot that you can unlock now then you might want to hurry or you'll be too late to get it!
