Sinful Sunday: Deliberately not playing the objective in a game

I know that protecting the objective in a game isn't always the most exciting part about playing a game and it can be easy to ignore it, but this is the part of the game that truly matters because ignore the objective and you will most likely lose! Unfortunately that doesn't stop a lot of players from ignoring the objective and making it that much harder for you and your team to win.

Why do people ignore the objective?

You would think that they don't care if they win or lose but then when you lose some of these people start accusing others of being bad at the game while this person was never anywhere near the objective. Yeah that makes total sense to blame others when you're being useless yourself in the match. I think the main reason why a lot of people ignore the objective is because they expect others to do it, a lot of people prefer to play a dps character and just rack up a lot of kills. Which is fine but there are times when you need to defend and work together as a team, unfortunately some people can't or won't work as a team and that will often result in defeat for your team. There are also people that truly don't care about the objective, they just want to get as many kills as they can get and maybe some of these people believe that this will get them the victory. But no matter how many kills you get, if the enemy team captures or destroys the objective then it's game over!

Working together is winning?

It definitely doesn't hurt to work together. Having one person on defense is often a bad idea because if the enemy team breaks through then that person is in a lot of trouble! Yesterday I played some Fortnite and played a protect the shelter mission. This is a tough mission, I was also underpowered so that didn't help either, if your team doesn't work well together. I was the only one to defend the shelter while the other three players moved around the map looking for the bots to repair the shelter. Not a bad idea but then when the enemies started attacking they didn't return to the shelter. I had to throw everything I had to defend the shelter and barely made it out alive. So one of the people I played with came back, a constructor and helped me repair and defend. We still had some time left before the next wave hit so I went looking for more resources, I used almost everything I had in the last attack on the shelter, and the bots you need to repair the shelter. Everything seemed to be cool until the next wave started and I discovered that the constructor had left the game and the other two players still didn't want to help defend. Which eventually cost us the mission. That's at least ten minutes down the drain because people don't want to play the objective. I understand that you need  to divide and conquer sometimes but expecting one person to defend the objective is insane when the enemies are relentless in their attacks!

How do you get people to help you defend the objective?

You can always ask, but don't always expect to get a reply or a friendly reply if people decide to say something. It also depends how you say it. If you insult them and start raging then I doubt people are going to be happy to help you with the objective. I know how frustrating it can be if you have to work together with other people, especially when they don't communicate and/or work with you as a team. But you don't want to insult them or get mad at them because I doubt they'll be any help then and I can't say I would blame them if you get a lot of verbal abuse from someone. It's better to play with friends, people who do communicate with you and work with you as a team, but if you have to play with other people you don't know then try to make the most of things. Try to be nice and patient, sometimes people show up eventually to help you with the objective and others will do what they can. You can't expect that everyone will always be nice and helpful but don't be too quick to judge. Some people can really surprise you and it's better to be the nice guy or girl than to be the raging lunatic that blames everyone. I can assure you that nobody wants to help you or play with you again if that is how you react to other people. Of course it's frustrating to deal with people that ignore the objective. But shouting at them won't help you, I'd say it works against you.
